Online shopping

Postby Splitpin » Thu Nov 19, 2015 9:23 pm

As an ardent book collector , I'm always on the hunt for a cheap book (of interest) .
Anyway , to cut a long story short ... tonight i purchased 4 books from the UK that are also for sale in NZ ,and i saved $85 nzd !
Ok , i will have to wait for 2 weeks to have them (freight free) ... but who cares ? ... its not as if they have a best by date.
Why are we so expensive ?
Local retailers bleat on about people shopping offshore .... well of course they will if its cheaper..... so lower your prices or shut up <_<

Its a sign of the times, now Marty... ...!

...and why all the local retailers are going out of business.

I get most of my "stuff" via "Amazon UK" nowadays.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/

Low prices, wide selection, and quick delivery, often free delivery!

...but I still go shopping to Sainsbury's on my bike, to get my daily edible and drinkable treats!

(They even do an on-line shopping and delivery service now!).

Paul... :D ...!

Paul , i haven't tried Amazon yet . I find the the book depository very good (UK) Always free shipping , and 99.9% of the time , 10 to 15 NZD cheaper than at home.
The books i added are to compliment my "Lightning Boys" and "Victor boys " .... so i have Valiant , Vulcan , Jaguar and Hunter "boys"on the way.

Marty, the Book Depository was great when it started - but it was started by an ex-employee of Amazon, and a couple of years back, the very successful business was sold to Amazon, the biggest player in that market, and everything went up in price...very like the banks here in Oz - as soon as one bank dreams up a new charge or fee, the others adopt it "to remain competitive". That is their idea of competition

I do have a couple books into coming from Amazon, I think I pointed out just how much difference between technical book shops in the NZ and even then could not find titles , one good example is the the Lockheed P2V (US currency was ideal) $48NZ - 320 gloss page high quality print .. my Consolidated Catalina book of the same quality was NZ180$, both brand new but that was the markup ... bloody atrocious !

What the worst the Govt want to do is now wants to put on a TAX for these items for something one cannot buy in New Zealand, they aren't cloths or shoes .. these are specific specialized items specific to research I need .

The biggest thing the Christchurch Technical book shop closed down due his reason the stock was to expensive to carry, other half was wifey coming in and turning it half into Coffee shop and Library ... thank the crike for Online Shopping.
