Looking at the pics from Splitpins nephews, and the Herc propwash in particular reminded me of a few tricks we played on the new apprentices.

Tell them to "go to the store for a bucket of propwash"
Or "go and get me some striped paint"
Or "this is a left hand thread, so get me a left hand spanner"
And my personal favourite " go and ask fo a long weight" wherby the unsuspecting hairy would ask the toolstoreman for one, and the storeman would wander off for 10 minutes before returning empty handed and say " you just had one" :D

Thanks Marty for reminding me of these, and I am sure you guys will have many more...

In my younger days the sky-hook was the favorite long before choppers were the sky-hook thing, I remember the farmer across the road from us asking his young worker to hop on his bike and go down to the blacksmith shop and get a sky-hook

Missed that , one had to grow up pretty bloody quickly , the old jokes tho tried and tested but scrutinized well before trap doors opened.
