Ground Geotechnical Levels

Postby Ian Warren » Mon Apr 25, 2016 4:35 pm

Ground Geotechnical Levels, we all know how we feel Earthquakes, but the ground still moves even without the Shake .... the best level is putting bottles in a fridge, I have lived here now nearly twenty years , what happens when your beer bottles start rolling the opposite direction to what one has been use to for those last twenty years , I checked the http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/ .... quake felt site everyday .... over the last this week nothing has occurred , previous the history they rolled to the West , they now more inclined to roll to the right heading > .. them there bottles have now decided to head East.

Thats true Ian ... the geo guys refer to them (it) as creeping quakes .... the planet is a state of constant motion.
Without wanting to sound like a doom and gloom merchant , with all the world wide activity of late , we must be due for a rumble or two.

Back in the early/mid 1970s, there were two small tremors affecting Port Kembla NSW and the surrounding area, where I lived then. There was no damage to speak of, except that some doors previously jammed had come free, and vice versa.
A couple of years later, there was another tremor and all the above-mentioned effects were reversed.

I found that with the different earthquakes on the last 6 years, watching the water in a glass, since the wobbly's have given up, its amazing to then see the change with a simple thing like restocking a fridge and all within week maybe more, when you get a ground elevation change like this tho small .. back to experimenting :)

I was impressed with the size of the steel mill there ... it was as large as driving thru Ashvegas ... and more , if ever there was spot for a Si-Fi movie that would have to be it , had a good quake in there, the city of Katoomba would smell like blood for years.
