71 years today since the U.S nuked Hiroshima .
My partner went to memorial service (for want of a better word) with some other local Japanese people this evening .... one of our flatmates grandmother was there ... saw it , and survived .
And of course lets not forget (as many do ) Nagasaki 3 days later ... 90,000–146,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000–80,000 in Nagasaki killed.

Half of those numbers were vaporized in seconds (nothing left but a shadow) , the rest had to suffer for months ... years, with the residual radiation sickness .

Lets hope ... but dont hold your breath , we have learnt something from this disgusting experiment.

I think this is were a lot have learned over time, so much has changed even with dis-arming, it a decision of the time, the worry of extra bloodshed , when you look at the Superfort raids during late 1944 and into 1945, they were flattening city by city, the politics between the US and Russia was already going sour .. the one thing the two bombs did was stop WWII , this is were MacAurthur choose to keep the Emperor because it was him that stamped the surrender, but also the majority of population following him , In Japan the Army Generals wanted to keep going even stage a coup which was stopped by luck by Imperial guards.

What a difference, between the Imperial Japan of the day, and modern, technological Japan of today, where we purchase just about everything for our daily needs, (and wants!).

Japan made an excellent job of all my later motorcycles, compared with my old Brit stuff!.... :wink2: ....!

Its difficult to imagine that its the same country as it was in the past!

...still...its difficult for the old folks to forget what happened during the Pacific War...

Paul....caught in amongst the invasion of Europe by the Hun...!
