I know its military , and that's not popular these days , but i watch this stuff and i think ... that's whats missing in 2016.
Trust , respect , team work ... being the best and being proud of it.
These days there are no losers ... well sorry ,yes there are! , if you didn't win , then you lost , seems simple to me.

All this touchy feely BS is turning the next , and the next generation into a bunch of limp d**ks .... for want of a better term.(excuse my dated non pc terminology)

And then we get the "but he/ she / it.. did his/ her /its best" brigade , fine , thats all we can ask for ... but there was still a winner and that has to be recognized.
Sorry . all this stems from a conservation i had tonight with a person who sees the world as level playing field ... which it is not.
What a farce the Olympic games would be (if not already) if this kind of reckoning where allowed to prevail ... people win , people lose .

There used to be teachers who helped every child achieve their potential; now we have "education professionals" conducting social experiments with other people's kids, and gummint requirements that all kids must be held down to the lowest common denominator, regardless of natural ability. If you aim to be average, you finish up going out backwards, because no-one is perfect, or capable of achieving a 100% result.

Yes and no. I find it difficult to accept that if you don't win, you've lost. That's fine in sport, and it's the way of war, but dividing anything else into winning and losing is far too simplistic. These days people seem to need a way to judge their own existence by comparing themselves to others. I'm well below average, and happy to be here, thank you... What's the prize in life? Everyone has a different idea of what it means to succeed, so anyone else's view of me isn't relevant.

What is winning and losing to me? If any of my kids had to go to war, I'd consider that losing. That's another thing -- I have an attitude to the military which has evolved over time. A recent post here dealt with bombing the two Japanese cites, which when I was born was considered a symbol of winning. Now I see it as one of the most evil acts ever performed in the 'modern' world. Luckily a lot of people think this way now, and some of this stems from an enforced respect for others, which some people call political correctness. Sure, sometimes PC goes too far, and I'm often raving about fools who see evil in a toilet mural, but I'm also happy to fight anyone who makes a snap judgement about any race, gender or any other-ness simply because they just accepted what their parents/grandparents said about the japs, or commies, or pooftas, or bloody uppity women. Some of the best people I've ever met are in those groups, some in more than one...

That is impressive stuff and well disciplined, Another way of looking at it , when I was at school running 10,000 meters and to win was a primary today due to political correctness kid are now only aloud to run 6000 meters because doctors recon the jarring is bad on the kids body ... load of dribble I run everywhere and funny thing was my audience was in a bus , from the Avonhead road petrol station to the top end of Riccarton road I bet the bus and was buying my ticket at the picture theater before the mates got there.

Winning and Losing , best example was these kids in Lebanon during the siege, each one owned his own turf .. didn't matter if you were a kid or adult they would pop ya , youngest was seven with an AK-47 and oldest was 11, other did not any older , either killed or snuck out , they were considered as losers , you look at the recent girl bride who went to Syria and get killed .. then people cry sympathy.

As far as that troop in the Utube wonder how they would feel if this come along. This is a real combat team .... I Know , I have the documentary here on the shelf

I guess it all really depends on the situation. Anything defined as competitive has to have winners and losers or else it is not really a competition. But is life a competition? It might feel like a marathon or endurance event at times but it is not a competition. As Rob says, "What's the prize?" Humans are naturally competitive and generally want to succeed. Removing the competitive edge in kids sport in favour of participation (at any cost) eventually diminishes the experience for all concerned. It is better to maintain graded sport so each participant can be challenged and meet his or her full potential.

On the subject of the military...particularly the US war machine, I tend to agree with Rob's comments also.
I have just returned from Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon). Whilst there I visited the War remnants museum that documents the "American War". It is sickening to see what man is capable of doing to one another. There were no winners in that war only losers.

That is also a good one Steve , after war, WWII the losers were in a way the winners, look how Japan was rebuilt very quickly due to Americas help and for the better, "Operation Vittles" the Berlin airlift, show's what comes from the military intervention from America, Britain and France and how siege city people really appreciated and hero's come from that, the lolly bomber.

One thing even the losers were admired , how many people read about the German and Japanese aces or wanting to learn more about them, the interest in the hardware, learn more about the warships and armour, the people I've met as well who have no interest start getting interested and because of the military.
