Me and my Banana ... and more.

Postby Splitpin » Tue Mar 21, 2017 6:37 pm

Been a while since I mentioned the tree ... sucker ... or whatever it is, but it's doing well.
Every new leaf is half the size again of the last ... he has 12 now ... number 13 is in the process of unfolding, amazing thing.

Not sure where I will put it over winter, my cave is rather full .. so he may have to winter over in the lounge:ph43r:

Today I started yet another growing project ... mushrooms ! strange little things, lots of work involved ... the spores arrive by courier, and I've spent the day preparing their "home" .
Everything has to be sterile ... which seems odd for what is really just fungus, will keep you posted.
The garden is in full production mode .. fejoers (excuse spelling) are on the way ... pumpkins as well. The grapes are almost ready, but it's a race against the birds to get them in .. and my mini peppers are almost ready... and cropping tomatoes for Africa (at moms place)

All this, as well as work ... Family, bills, ..... Nah , life is good.
Do what you can, when you can, look after #1, take everything in moderation, and live a great life.

Great little update, Marty, sounds like your flora -- and fungi friends -- are in good hands. I've just 'retired' my avocado tree which I brought with me from Christchurch, it didn't like the Sth Canty weather (me neither) so good to know that things are working out up north:)

Ian , i can remember early days at Wigram (about this time of year)
There were huge circles of big fat field mushrooms growing on the airfield, the fire guys used to go and gather them, and if we were lucky, they would share a few with the rest of us.

I can recall many an early breakfast of those things , with bacon and toast ....

Last time I was at the museum, I'm sure some of those "rings" were still being harvested, God knows how old the are.... amazing things the old fungi.

I had forgotten the banana plant (they don't grow on trees, y'know) so I thought Marty had posted some P3D screens of the Blackburn Buccaneer (aka 'the flying banana') :arrr:

Bananas on toast is very nice, and so is those big flat field mushies, sliced and braised in a butter/black pepper sauce, with a rasher or two of bacon chopped through it. :D

..... ... ... ...!

Well done, Green-Fingers Marty!

As you can see in my photos, I have a massive back garden where I used to grow lots of stuff years ago when I moved here in 1962 (brand new Council House).....

I find its cheaper and quicker to buy all my veg, fruit, etc, from the Supermarket now, so I let the whole plot grass over with just a couple of flowering shrubs now....
...I call it Fozzer's Park... :D ...!

Much of the veg, etc, that I buy in the Supermarket each day is better quality than some of the stuff I used to grow, and there's availability all the year round.

I'm not into "Digging" any more!

...and I'm also a lazy sod.... ...!

Paul...watching the grass grow!.... :sleepy: ...!

P.S...The home-grown stuff I used to find nicer...Tomatoes and Runner Beans.... ...!
