On my way to work this morning, I made my standard stop at a local Caltex station for a coffee and morning snack.
I've known the guys for a few years ... so it was the usual chat .... and then, my card declined the payment  Did it again, the same result.
I had some cash, so that part was sorted.

Got to where I was going,(All the time thinking about the "declined" thing ) and decided to check my emails.
Sure enough ... one from the bank, saying, "due to some odd transactions " on my account, my card was blocked until I made contact .... contact was made, very quickly.

So off to the bank I went, email in hand... ID at the ready.
Got to talk with a great young guy... to cut a long story short, determined that I had made an $8,000 payment to 2 degrees , that should have been $80.00

He (John) did what he had to do .... the bill was paid,(of course) and my money was back in my account.
Well done BNZ, well done indeed.

A word of warning .... do NOT pay bills online after an Oyster and wine dinner.

Never had that sort of problem using old-fashioned, British Pounds (£) currency.

What I always find confusing, is the (American) $ Dollar currency, interspaced with its "Commas"....

$80,ooo.oo...etc...etc... :o ...!

Too many Commas, Full Stops, etc.... in confusing spaces!

English Pounds is just; £2.99..."Two Pounds, 99 Pence"

...sorted!.... :D ...!

Queen Victoria got it right!

Paul.... ....!
I am the biggest Fan of Queen Victoria!.... ...!

...also: I never generate an Internet Account with my Bank (HSBC/Midland Bank)...(I always pop into to see them, and the Bank Ladies always have large Boobies)..... ...!

Haha, nice catch by the bank.

Another gotcha if you're a CC user online, I had a couple of random Starbucks Membership Card to-pups done in US dollars in the states recently. Personally I dont drink their coffee, dont have a card for sure, and haven't been to the states in a year or two, so followed up w the bank and they reversed the charges. Turns out there's a mini scam where they can make lots of small charges on random credit card nums if they can guess the 3num code. The transactions were labelled "STARBUCKS CARD RELOAD". Sounds like SB need to up their security.

PS this was on a Debit Card which I've since cancelled.
