Well, I just bought the farm!!!

... a 2.1 hectare (5 acre) life-style block 40 miles west of Christchurch (Springfield), the last township before you head up into the Southern Alps. It's just large enough to raise some Suffolks and maybe a Gotland or two (sheep), a few drunken nannies (goats), as well as some leafcutters and honey bees. Will be moving in late February.

Sure am, Christchurch has progressed somewhat since the quake ... we returned a year ago after living on a West Coast lifestyle block for 4 1/2 years ... but it won't be a finished city for at least another decade (maybe more). It's time to move on.

Thanks Robin. Like Diamond Harbour it's a surprisingly busy little township. On Sunday morning (10am) we counted at least 10-15 international tourists schlepping about (not that there's a lot to see & do in Springfield).

Ain' t that the truth. We rented a larger LSB at Moonlight (25 acres) and now know it depends on what you run. Downscaling (both livestock and acreage) means we should get a little bit more time to breathe. West Coast Road ... you nailed it. On the bend just outside town. Feel free to drop on in ... the coffee's always hot and the cider's icy cold.

For a Super Cub ... maybe. Local hazards include: livestock, powerlines and windbreaks.

Wow ...a slice of heaven . That area is just beautiful. I sometimes look after a farm for a friend close by at Kowai bush , perched above the waimak .
Good on you for getting out of the city

We sometimes horse trek out at Rubicon Valley and recently looked at a Kowai Bush property, a rather quirky house with a loft master bedroom accessed via a spiral wrought iron staircase. Loved it, trouble was it wasn't fully double-glazed and thought it just a bit far off the beaten track.

First thing we are going to have to purchase is a generator ... just learned there have been 5 blackouts this year alone!
