way off topic ....I think I'm starting to mellow a little.
With all the hustle and bustle around me at the moment ...Im needed here and every bloody where ,and looking for work etc etc.
I find a great place to escape to is music .... my tastes are eclectic for sure , but the classics ... thats where a feel good.

The work those guys put in is amazing .... writing and arranging for an entire orchestra , nothing short of genius.
My go to tunes at the moment are Beethoven-Fur Elise , and Tchaikovsky's waltz of the flowers.

Marty, try some Sibelius. Our ABC Classic-FM has gone all trendy-imitation-pop-radio, and I am about to sack them. Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler - all glorious stuff.

Sorry guys, I can't get into the 'classic' music. I appreciate the skill and talent that it takes to compose and play said music but I just don't get the appeal... So I'm going to be a heretic and leave some music that I use to get me through the day....

When I am woodworking my boombox plays Internet radio stations, the problem is what to pick, there is so much Good Stuff.

And when you feel like a Serious Listen, nothing beats carefully placing a new 190g vinyl on the platter and hearing that glorious analogue noise for all of 20 minutes

Internet radio really is the go isn't it? I use Rooster Radio. It's very heavy blues but I've been turned onto so many good tunes that I wouldn't probably have found otherwise. As for vinyl... couldn't agree more. When I had a turntable, it was hard to beat a nice scotch and my well used copy of the Guess Who's 'Rockin' Or Led Zeppelin IV (of course)

The Blues is second, in my music hate list, to the devils music that is Rap.
If you don't have the blues before listening to it you sure will after

A lot of people are afraid of the blues. Early blues certainly is very harsh in the subject matter and also the way the guitar or harp is played. People like Robert Johnson and to a lesser extent Son House were virtuoso guitarists but they require the listener to engage with the music. Just because blues is about heartbreak and hurt doesn't mean that the listener has to be the same way.

You are correct that Hip hop would be number 2. Ghastly.
Some music we will look back to with the same embarrassment as we do to flared trousers, platform shoes, Mullet hair cuts and low riding
The primary reason we listen to music is that it "stirs" the emotions and hence our mood.
For me Blues Jazz mostly stirs up negative vibes and conventional Jazz I find comprises of several musicians playing different pieces of music together and at the same time.

Life is a tad hard at the moment , but music like that just takes the edge off.

It's funny how music acts as a window onto the past, when my brother and I were mid teens, we were into very different music -- I was rock 'n roll, and he was more 'sensitive', I can remember him blaring out 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' much to my disgust.

Today Spotify recommended the Neil Diamond 'Hot August Night' anniversary release, and I'm hooked now. In the early days before the 'cabaret' years he really knew how to put an album together. I may even try that damn seagull...

I've said before that I'm a big fan of NZ music, I now have another favourite on the list after listening to Doug's country radio link -- Camille and Stuie -- search Youtube if you are not afraid of country music and the local kiwi accent:)

Today's playlist is all Brooke Fraser, not something I'd not normally choose but I was very intrigued by this Grammy winning song this year -- perfect for a Sunday morning...

I have been accused of 'shoving religion down people's throats' before (when I planted the Godzone sign on the hill about Wanaka), but this is far from the case -- I am not a tiny bit religious, but I have nothing against those who are. Brooke certainly falls into that category -- seeing her alight onstage is an inspiration!
