Here we go again

What a night ...just got back from the hospital , mums in again.
Popped around for my nightly visit and she was complaining about a headache ...which isn't unusual.
I noticed she was also a little vague and struggling to find the right word . She decided to go and have a lie down.
I went to check her , she said she felt a bit better and could I bring her a ......... couldn't remember what she wanted.
That was the point I decided to ring the ambo.
They arrived with a great ex Brit marine now paramedic .... within minutes he knew she was "having" a stroke .
Went in the ambo with her ...poor old love .... very confused by now.
Anyway ... after 2 scans , no sign of a brain bleed , thank god , and the symptoms were slightly less.

Not sure what the long term looks like , will know more in the morning.

Hey Marty, really sorry to hear this. You take care of her, and just as importantly, look after yourself.
Hoping for better news in the morning.

John

Well done, Marty. Exactly the right first response. Best wishes to your Mum, and your good self too.

More worrying news, Marty!

Mum's not the only one, I struggle to find the right words, and spellings, all the time!

The result of not having anyone to talk to, for many, many years!

Typing is OK...it gives me time to think of what I want to say.....and my trusty Spell Checker (Grammarly) does the rest!

Take care, both of you!

Love to Mum!

Paul.

Thanks for your thoughts guys ...nice to have some company, even if you are all invisible .
Ma is doing ok ...no worse. All her vitals are good , as are her levels. Still some problems with speech , but they are doing more scans and blood tests this afternoon .

The jargon they use is a little confusing , but even though there is no sign of a brain bleed , they will try and find the area that is causing the speech thing ...amazing .
Anyway , Im home now ...will sim for a bit to take my mind of stuff and then head back up there this arvo.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

All the best mate,

Paul

Thanks, Paul , I really hope you are on the mend.
Ma will be coming home on Friday ... I'm amazed at the speed she recovered from this (it was only minor) but at 83
Her speech is about 99% ok now ...and will improve.
My brother and I have decided to spend every other night at her place for 2 weeks (me Friday, him Saturday etc) just until she settles back down.
We see her every day anyway ... but I think it's the nights that will make her feel a bit better/ safer.

Its been a bloody hard 72 or so hours, and more to come ...arranging home help etc, but I guess that's what you do.

All this, and I still cant find a job :( God, I've applied for heaps ...but it seems when your 60 .... your no longer required.
I do have 2 in the pipeline ...so fingers crossed.

But all that aside .... look after yourself, and thanks for your thoughts Paul.

Ta, Marty..... :D ....!

My problem isn't due to a medical condition....(there is very little/nothing wrong with me, according to my Doctor)....

...its just 'cos I spend every day talking to myself, and I keep running out of interesting things to say to myself.

I love the peace and quiet of being on my own, (it seems for most of my life!), but it has creates the loss of the ability to carry out a long conversation with a real human being!

I just hope that whoever comes to visit me doesn't stay very long, because conversation drags to a standstill after a very short time!

It's quite surprising how much of my library of suitable words to use has slowly diminished over time!... :( ....

One good thing tho'.... :wink2: ....

...I NEVER argue with myself!

Paul.... ... ....!

Got mum home this afternoon ...she's looking and sounding good.
I'm at home tonight and my brother is doing the night shift with her, my turn on Saturday.

Thank god for an understanding partner bless her.

That's great - those older Mums are tough old chooks, for sure.
Best wishes to all of you.

Thanks, Mike .... although I'm not earning anything at the moment, it is nice to know I can give her(with my brother) almost 24/7 support.

I feel for ya mate...

had a rather 'interesting' Sunday just gone.
Got a phone call in the morning saying wife's mum (76 and on holiday with friends) had just gone arse over tit down a flight of 16 stairs and was in Wellington hospital.
Wife spent about an hour on the phone arranging flights etc when the phone rings again and learn my brother (47) is in North Shore hospital having had a heart attack!
Have spent half the intervening time in the car running back and forward to airports and hospitals and now have the mother in law ensconced in the end bedroom for goodness knows how long.
Upshot was a broken shoulder, two broken ribs and a couple of cracked vertebrae. Still to hear more from my brother but at one stage the hospital said he set a new record for pulse rate - 265!
I can't wait to go back to moving airplanes tomorrow so I can relax. ;)

cheers

apparently Bro has been moved from the cardiac ward into the intensive ward
but they didn't tell him why. Some "surgeon" type came and looked down his nose at him and spouted a sh1tload of high falutin' words and then
walked out without answering any questions. My brother is a big rough and 'Unrefined' bloke that calls a spade a 'Fuckin shovel mate' but even so
a person deserves a bit better from the medical profession.
Looks like they maybe going to operate or do exploratory - he had to ask a nurse to explain it all to him. I've tried to call him several times today but no reply.
Maybe they don't have phones on that ward. I'm keeping in touch with my mum as she will probably hear first and let me know.

family eh?
cheers all

and Marty - good luck, both with your mum and the job hunting.

Every time I want to think of a word to use, I have to go, letter by letter, through the whole bl**dy alphabet in the hope that one of the letters will sound like the first letter of the word I am desperately searching for.

...it makes for very long conversations, peppered mostly with long periods of silence, while I go through the whole bl**dy alphabet....each time!....

Its getting worse...and I am aware of it!

The Mice have been nibbling at my Oxford English Dictionary.

..there's not a lot left...

Paul.... ....!
