Well, day one down at the new job ...and I'm stuffed (but that's good)
I'm at least 20 years older than the guys I work with ...mostly big bearded, tattoo bearing, shaved head types ... but bloody good guys.... and they made me feel welcome.
I know a few of them through my last job which made it a bit easier.

I know 80% of the job, but I will learn a lot more assuming I get through the 90day thing.
All in all ....a good day

A lot of my USA Youtube Motorcycle Chums fit that description...but they are a grand lot, otherwise!!

Thanks gents ... day 2 was good as well.
These young fellas have a lot to teach me , and Im happy to learn , and the nice thing is , they ARE happy to teach me.
In a way , being the the "old fart" in the workshop has its advantages
Got my first lesson in mig welding this morning (I dont need to know it ...but why not) from a young 25 year old dude ....just amazing

These guys , from management (who are great) down , dont seem to see the age thing ... just the new guy , and what we can teach him.
I'm humbled ...I really am.

I think , their expectations of me , exceed mine.

BTW ..my weld was a "mountain" compared to 25 year old tutor.
His comments "you can grind that down bro"

Holy cow what a week ...I'm 150% stuffed, my head is full of new stuff
Today I started to learn about electronics, I had to replace a joystick on a machine ...easy I thought ... wrong, no such thing as plug and play on some of these older machines.
After removing the stick from its mounting, I was confronted with a loom of wires .... which had to be "unsoldered" and then redone... I took photos with the hope they would be helpful with the reassembly... they weren't, the connections on the replacement unit were a little different ...so, I had to seek help. The last thing I needed was a right turn input becoming a left turn.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, it got done,(with the help of my 30 year old tutor) but I blew out the hours allocated to the job by 50% ... they wrote it off to "age"

To be honest, today rattled me a bit ... mainly the time deficit, so I mentioned to them, that perhaps, it's not a good idea to task me with these type of jobs ..at the moment.

Ok , it may not work out, and to be honest again, if I were the employer, I would be thinking "do we have time to train a 60 year old" ?

I said the other day, that I know 80% of this job...but, it's that bloody last 20% that might make or break it.

But...all that aside ... have a great weekend team and take care.

you will get there mate, it all comes down to experience, give it 6 months and you wil be changing and dreaming about joysticks in your sleep. glad you are enjoying the new job, sometimes a change is as good as a holiday as they say. i started a new job in Auckland in February, refuelling arcraft, loving the job and being around planes again.
