Took this pic this morning while warming up the camera for some plant shots to put on trademe.
It has been enhanced to bring out the detail... just made the background darker.

Our lovely old Moon!

Where would we be without her!

I just hope Humans don't go there and spoil her!

Well done, Marty!

Paul.... :D ...!

I took a pic of moonset the other morning.
The result looked like someone had waved a torch about in the far distance. -_-
What gear do you capture the moon with Marty, looks very professional.

Charl , that shot was the only one of about 4 that made the grade.
I just brace myself against something firm, aim, zoom in and shoot.
I'm using a Lumix (Panasonic ) DMC-LZ40 , it has 42x optical zoom, but let down a little with only 20 mega pixels.

CP I've seen one with 45.7mp ...buts it $5700 ...and it hasn't got a lens :ph43r:
With the DSLR cameras, there is a trade-off it seems.
Big zoom, less mp ....for example, the Nikon P900 with 83 optical zoom but only 16mp.
My one fits about in the middle, the 42 optical and 20mp is about right ....but as usual, I want more B-)

Yes sorry I no longer have Imageshack and was trying Imgur which I see needs a little work :)
No great loss, it was my long-distance shot of the moon.
I also have a Lumix somewhere which I must dig out, has a good Leica lens.

The moon balances the weather system on a planet, without it we would be faced with 1000MPH winds and therefore would be unliveable it faces Earth with only one side as that is where the element that controls the weather system resides.

This last comment tickled me so much I went and looked up Stuff about the moon.
To save you the trouble:
If there were no moon to create tidal drag, we'd rotate about once every six hours.
That means every four hours you'd put in a two-hour nap.
Sounds attractive to me.

1000MPH winds/storms would kill you, it can take 1000s of years to wait for a break in such a weather system(window) to be able to land on such a planet.(the moon would eventually hit the planet) BTW the spin of the earth is not controlled by the moon just weather and tidal motion that's it. Earths gravity and spin is controlled by gravity gears inside earth itself in the core(also season and tilt is controlled there). To prevent people going there is a magma layer in order to protect the planet. If the gravity gears are damaged the gravity on the planet stops and everything just floats away and the atmosphere is lost.(gravity contains the atmosphere it is blue in appearance the layer that does this.) ;)

{that was 2 ways to lose a habitable planet}
