A successful day!

Well, this morning the perceived OAT was -1C, so it was out of bed, into the shower, dried off and dressed before hypothermia set in. Then off in the Suby to catch the early train to Bris-bunn. Where I scored the very last blueberry muffin at my favourite coffee shop, then went to the barber's for a trim and had the place to myself while Renata tidied me up and her colleague watched morning TV. No waiting at all. Then back across Queen St mall to the Telstra shop where a charming young lady re-organised my various internet plans (38GB shared, costing $160/mth) to 80GB/mth for the main machine plus 10GB/mth for the tablet costing me $134/mth.
Cost per MB is now 11c, down from 19c.
It's not unlimited - that has to come, and will - but it means I can do a lot more with a lot less husbanding to save some bandwidth, for a large download visible on the horizon :D

Certainly a better deal - but still quite dear.
I get a landline + Unlimited Broadband for NZD100, albeit at the end of a 5MB/s copper wire!

Charl - it's dear because it is wireless mobile broadband. When the time come to sell the house and buy the motorhome, I can just take it all with me, and when having done the trip, I sell the motorhome and buy a house boat, same thing. :D

I sent the link to darling daughter, expecting "No, Dad, don't be silly" and she replied "Go for it"

Hard to say, Charl. So much depends on the source server settings, the time of day in the country of origin, the traffic in between etc. I have seen an 8GB file come down in 3 mins, but I have also seen a 20GB file take 40+ mins. It's always better when Europe and the USA are asleep.

Looking at my provider's speed test tells me 14.8 Mbps down and 8 Mbps up, so divide by 8 to get MBps. An independent one pinging a server in Sydney NSW says 16.8 Mbps down and 6.7 up, both a few minutes ago, which they consider "fast". Telstra don't say where they are looking. I'm happy with it.
ATB, Mike

My Talk-Talk Service Provider charges me £19 per mumf for my Internet access and Copper Wire Phone Land-line service.

Broadband Internet.
Free evening and week-end land-line phone calls. (I don't use Mobile Phones!).

Download speed= < 8 Mb's.....OK for most stuff.
Upload speed= < 0.1 Mb/s. ....Guess how long it takes to upload a small video file to You-Tube?....up to 3 hours!

Fibre Internet would cost much more, (if available?), and the only real gain for me would be is in occasional; "Upload" speeds for You-Tube!

All my "stuff" is via Copper Wire Land Line!

Paul...polishing copper wire... :wink2: ...!

Just for the record, I downloaded AFS2 Switzerland from Aerosoft today, two zips for about 15GB, which took just under two-and-a-half hours. I would call that slow. Other smaller files I have d/l from Aerosoft also seemed slow. I may as well get Orbx Netherlands tomorrow, because upgrading my plan meant I got 80GB and only four days to use it, before the normal month-end rollover which will see me with another 80GB on Sept 3 :arrr:

Switzerland is good, you'll find plenty of interest there.
Wish they'd bridge the PR to Innsbruck!
No sign of Netherlands on Steam :( I imagine that will eat up most of your remaining data...
