Photoshop and GIMP blues

My God ....I'm getting really pissed off with all this "cloud" stuff, and everything related to it. What happened to the days when you purchased something ...and you had a CD...OR DVD?
My Photoshop has started misbehaving ...it cant read anything from Bridge. I'm on the Adobe forum ...about as useful as tits on a bull, despite taking my money.
Ok .... let's install GIMP as a stop gap until I can sort the former...wrong!! I can modify a photo etc etc ...but it saves it as a PNG...and no real clear way to convert to JPEG ...WTH
Maybe I'm tired (I am) but I just want some software I pay for monthly (or so) to work.
Will look at it with fresh eyes in the morning...or evening.

Marty, I feel your pain. I went to update my SketchUp and was told it was now cloud-based "to give me a better experience". No mention of the massive bandwidth traffic generated by every 'save' going up to the cloud and having to be brought back down again.
All my screenies start as bmp files, but I use Irfan View (it's a freebie) to save them as jpg files - and the 'Save As' button offers me a pulldown list of all sorts of filetypes.

I've always had my Adobe apps set to update automatically, but I really should be a bit more careful -- more than once I've run into problems with updates, and since I rely on it a lot, it can mess things up for a while. Still, photoshop is the one I use, and can do most things, and I'm too old to change...
However, I still have Micrografx Picture Publisher version 10, which back at the turn of the century was a good alternative to Photoshop. It hasn't been sold or supported for 20 years, and as an old 32bit program it doesn't manage memory well, but I still do all my building/object night lighting using the PP Light Studio:) I just have to remember to save often, as it crashes often... It loads and saves modern photoshop files, which helps a lot. I use it heavily for about a week at the end of every project, then I forget about it for another year. One day it'll stop working, that'll be interesting.
I have used GIMP, but don't have it now, since I sold my graphics soul to Adobe. The few dollars a month for the cloud subscription are very worthwhile to the business, otherwise I'd probably find a free alternative.

Not a win yet Mike, Work is dominating my time at the moment. However, I shall deal with it.
Just a shame the Adobe site isn't really user-friendly ...really quick to take your money, but NOT so fast to offer clear help when required.

When you finish work whether it is photo or screenshot and save it as PNG using GIMP. Then you can open Microsoft's MS Paint that comes with operating system, then open photo or screenshot and then save same photo or same screenshot under JPEG format.

Aharon, thanks for the info ...sorry for the delay my friend. Between work and the Flu, I haven't had much time (or energy) to do much.
