First of all, let me make my postion on live animal exports(by ship) known ...I dont agree , there have been some awful incidents. Right, thats out of the way.
You may be aware that a ship has gone missing close to Japan heading for China, in a monster typhoon ...43 crew(2 are New Zealaders) and close to 6000 cows on board. Last I heard, one srviour has been found in the water, (which is amazing) that person , according to media , said the ship capsized. I hope they find some lifeboats , I really do.

NZ media are now reporting that MPI , or Ministry of primary industries, has put a ban on similar exports until they find out what happened ....Really ?
On my part, yes ban the exports , however, I can tell you what happened !
The bloody ship got itself into a typhoon ...a big typhoon, and at this stage, it appears it capsized . Ships arent aircraft, they dont have the speed to avoid weather like this. I dont know what met detail they had on departure, or how they dealt with it, we may never know.
I think a more appropriate response from MPI would have been a little more human..... 42 human lives , and almost 6000 bovine lives are more than likely gone...... and YES, bovine lives matter as well .... poor things....jeezz.
Maybe an over reaction, but no apology here ....Im really tired of sterile, rehearsed "reactions" to just about everything these days ...really tired.

Lets hope there are life boats found for the remaining 42 ....I dont want to think about the others.

I'm with you Marty - our press has headlines about 2 Australians being on the ship, and they mention in passing 2 New Zealanders, but the rest of the crews, 39 Filipinos, hardly get a mention
