Sorry, but am I missing something.

Postby Splitpin » Fri Sep 03, 2021 6:31 pm

Regarding this awful episode in Auckland this afternoon. As I read it, the now-deceased perpetrator was known to the Police, and the PM, and under constant watch.
Again, as I read it ...he can't be kept in Jail,(that's not being kind) but he was allowed to go shopping with a Police tactical unit in tow?
He then proceeds to attack people with a knife!!
Can't wait for the spin Doctors to get to work on this one ..... bloody hell, what next.

Remember to be kind.

Its OK, Cindy will give the victims a hug, knives will soon be banned, and all will be fine under our great leader.

No-one in their right mind is suggesting, or would seriously suggest, a knife ban. Trivialising the matter so quickly makes light of the fact that there are three families with loved ones in hospital in a critical condition as we speak.

I would wager that for this situation, as with many things, there are a plethora of details as yet unseen and making sweeping generalisations prior to possessing facts runs the risk of looking foolish and/or callous down the road...

What, like banning a whole bunch of firearms and destroying people's hobbies and lives before the Royal Commission has reported back?

It is a meme and I'm not sure where the whole generalisation thing comes in. Are you suggesting he accidentally tripped and stabbed 7 people? The outcome for him, and us is a good one, however, the darker (can we still use that word?) side of me would like to have seen him share the same cell as Brenton Tarrant.

Why was he shot so quickly and not tasered? It was only a knife. Don't the police have stab-proof vests?

I suspect that he was about to start stabbing again when they caught up with him, maybe they couldn't get close enough?. Of more concern is how many shots were fired. There is no way that many were needed and what was the background? The cops have a P*ss poor record when it comes to firearms.

Supermarket shoppers do not have stab-proof vests.
When your standing orders are to take a person down, you empty the magazine.

100% appropriate response.
I didn't know we had this capability, it is very specialised.

It is saddening that this has come to NZ, along with the legislation to be rushed through now.

The actions and out come was entirely appropriate and standard procedure. We do not need to spend another $2 million a year keeping someone like this incarcerated alongside the other idiot.

I agree that shooting to kill was an appropriate response however unloading the magazine on a Glock (I presume they weren't carrying Bushmasters) like they did shows how poor the Police's use of firearms is. There is no way that somebody who is certified to carry a firearm in a public setting should need to fire off that many rounds to accomplish a kill. They can't possibly be checking the background when they're doing that.

Yes you may be correct there Chopper, however, I haven't seen any footage.
I just know that today is a much better place than it was before.

There was some footage from inside the supermarket where you can't see what happened but you can hear it. Absolutely the world is a better place
