I'm TRYING to watch one of the TinTin movies on TV3, but the soundtrack is awful, or is that just me?
I can hear it, but I don't know what I'm hearing...without blowing everybody out of the room, bloody annoying.
It's like some of the youtube stuff I watch, great narration, ruined by a musical background that destroys the speaker's voice.

I think it is just me after years and years of standing beside running aircraft engines with no headgear (which wasn't mandated ) The F-27's and Andovers were the best (or worst in retrospect) ...those screaming Darts.

Good old TinTin movies! I can remember them but the OH&S stuff about hearing loss is pretty rusty. Certainly long exposure (cumulative) to high frequency noise will damage hearing. I expect you have trouble with a lot of people speaking in a crowded room. Lower frequency sounds can also cause damage. In the 1980s, my employer carried out a survey of all employees, to establish a benchmark against which any future hearing loss could be measured. One chap had significant low frequency loss, and since he had always worked on sheet steel shears or the high speed shearline for 20-odd years he was immediately paid a substantial sum of compensation, well into five figures.
He didn't mention that as a young sailor in WW2, he had been a gunner in the RN for some years then and later. Nobody asked him to.

I'm not too sure what sort of audio system Three uses, but I sometimes have The Breeze TV (another Three channel) streaming while I work, and the sound quality is very weird -- it's either too quiet or just overpowering, so I would imagine that's it's their issue rather than your hearing.

I grew up reading every Tin Tin comic hardcover I could get.
Never thought to watch a movie of it, until 3D Home Theatre arrived.
I was then flabbergasted to hear he's called Tahn Tahn!
Changed everything forever.

Marty, you can reassure yourself of your exact frequency of hearing loss here.
I see I can still (just) bracket the range of human speech.
But white noise like a crowded room totally defeats me, the product of a triggerhappy machine gunner years ago, and subsequent tinnitus.
Happily my favourite music has lots of 65Hz Boom Boom which probably transmits best through the skullbone

Mike, I suspect he got lucky - LF hearing loss is extremely rare and is generally seen as a hereditary issue.

Charl, I did that test...I couldn't hear anything below 31Hz and then nothing after 8465 Hz, is that bad ?
I must admit some of that low-frequency stuff sounded like a GE-90 starting up

Charl, I didn't know that (nearly said I hadn't heard it ) but our factory had plenty of deep rumblings that could be felt more than heard, and not much screechy stuff. Bob was indeed lucky, he would have got nothing out of the Navy.
Personally, I have some high-end loss, but in my Overhead Crane Driving days I always had earmuffs on, becos I had a little pocket radio which would pick up ABC Classic_FM, with some little 'phones which fitted comfortably in the earmuffs; I could still hear the noises I needed to, but minimised, and the music was great .
