NZFF

It ain't arf quiet on the old NZFF.
I'm partly to blame , I've caught the modeling bug...I don't build them just buy the bloody things....(OCD) Hours and dollars spent away from simming .
BUT...I'm coming home , I cant run MSFS, but I have others.
I could have rebuilt my rig twice with the money I've spent on plastic lately ..... such is life.

And a certain amount of real life has diverted me as well.....

A bit of real life here, too - a flood a few weeks back, that came up so quickly I couldn't move the Suby and the HiLux to the usual high ground. Both more or less immobilised and then last Thursday another flood, not quite so bad, but I will have to start again on the electrics and the cleaning.
Such is life.

Mike, I feel sorry for you. I haven't experienced a flood, but I've had a house full of liquefaction which was horrible.

Unless I post details of my latest weather pattern in England, (my back garden), in the chat Forum, there is little else going on in NZFF!
I haven't done any Flight Sim stuff for a year or more now, mainly concentrating on videoing my daily motorcycle exploration journeys on YouTube for the world to see...(and lust over!)!
I occasionally pop my recent motorcycle goings-on in the "anything else" Forum, just to keep stuff alive!
Apart from the Screen Shots Forum, there's little else going on!
I pop in every day and have a peek around to see what is going on...
...and the silence is deafening!.... ....!

..by the way, the sun is shining in my back harden, at the mo', and the temperature is 62 degrees Fahrenheit (in old money)...

Marty, I'll take the flood anytime. These were typical floods, about knee-deep in my yard and flowing about 4-5 kts. There were some very heavy showers passing through, enough to overwhelm the street drainage, and the creek came up over the top of that.
Came up so quick I couldn't get off my driveway into the road, without risking being swamped on the road itself.

...and that's not to mention the devastating Australian Wild Fires every year (like California). I follow them on my BBC news.
England, (and my back garden), is in a; "Temperate Zone", so we/I rarely get extremes of weather conditions.

I think another reason it's a bit slow on here these days is a lot of people are using discord for discussions screenshots etc.

Particularly the younger generation of simmers - I myself use it frequently now and posting photos is such a breeze as you can just upload directly rather than having to use another image hosting site

I get to the point where I feel its a bit too much hassle and cant be bothered uploading to another site first

Otherwise still a great site and lots of helpful discussions

I blame covid for everything at the moment.
Once again my family upstairs is isolating, as my son tested positive on Monday. Just now my grandson -- coming up for 9 months old -- was admitted to hospital 'just in case' as he has a fever.
Although technically I don't live with them, as I'm in a self-contained flat, I suspect I have it. (My grandson visited on Monday, and he does these big kisses, which are basically just a faceful of saliva.) A negative test this morning, but my son was the same for almost a week after being exposed at work. Lucky I have a hobby, currently masking tiny little 3D printed buildings with 2mm tape, and swearing at my fat fingers and thumbs...

Challenging times all round Rob. My partners 24 yr old son, who lives with us at the moment, seems to get everything going, despite being very athletic and fit. First Covid and now he has the flu. He says the flu is far worse. He has been in bed or confined to his room for 3 days now. Fever, bad back pain, congested and fatigued. It might be quite bad for an elderly person to contract.
I have never had a flu shot but I’m strongly considering it this season.
Children are great disease vectors.

We are in isolation for the next week also Maria works shift work at an elderly rest home and it is full of the virus so it was only a matter of time before she caught it.
She showed the first signs of it on Monday morning waking with a mild sore throat but tested Negative before going to work also a negative 7am Tuesday Morning before her shift she came home for lunch and tested a positive at 3pm before her afternoon shift was to start again.
So far I have tested negative yesterday and am still feeling OK but I suppose it is just a matter of time before it finds me.
As for the flue I have my jab every year and haven't had the flue for many years now so at least the flue jab seems to work not like the covid ones as we have both had the full three covid jabs and she is OK just not feeling very good so hopefully it won't hit us to hard.

I've had all my Coronavirus Jabs, and the boosters, so I always feel OK, so far!
I've lived like a Hermit, entirely on my own for the past 47+ years...(and lovin' it!).... ...
...so apart from my trips to my Local Supermarket, on my trusty motorcycle, to top up my larder with tasty things to eat and drink, I have no contact whatsoever with other (annoying) Homo Sapiens!.... ...!
(They even ignore my e-mail messages!).... ....!

.... Challenging times all round

Most of the non-mainstream FS forums are "QUIETER" than normal at the moment (and have been for a bit of time past) .... even at those of groups which offer significant, if not frequent, new downloads too.

COVID has had an impact upon many people and their lifestyles .... and is possibly "part of" the reason.

We've got 3 critical people "DOWN" with (or recovering from) COVID at HJG at this very moment.

People whom have been professionally, as well as financially, impacted by it (I'm meaning on a global scale and not just in NZ) probably find themselves with less free time for FS than was previously the case as some of them have possibly been forced to pursue new, or additional, means of income in order to make ends meet .... and to survive.

Even I find myself re-prioritizing my free/spare time and energies at the moment .... retired (and reasonably secure) though I may be.

Other local, and global, events/circumstances probably account for a reduction in some FS forum activity too.

Glad it's not just me. I was going to fly and screen this afternoon, but my 56-hour week has caught up with me sorry.

Nah not just you, but funny you should mention. After prolly TWO YEARS of ZERO simming (due to general or COVID related malaise) just this last week for some reason I had THE URGE

I do have MSFS but I just haven't really engaged w it yet, mainly coz the machines I used to like to fly aren't available for it yet.

So, I ended up doing a clean install of both Prepar3d v3 and v5 with the 737 Classic (FeelThere) and 777 (CaptainSim) in v3, and the 737 (Classic again) and 767 (both CaptainSim, yeah, don't hate me) in v5. Also installed all the Orbx scenery (so easy to install) that generally works in both, and a small set of airports I like to fly to that work for both (mainly Godzone/RealNZ, FlyTampa, FlightBeam, UK2000) and some that really only play w v3 (from ThaiCreation, PacificIslandSim etc)

Been having a ball w the old stuff. Bunch of flights to/from Auckland, Wellington, ChCh, Sydney, Baku, Hong Kong (Kai Tak of course), Jeju (Korea), Stanstead, Manchester and Liege.

For me I enjoy the flight planning as much as the actual flying so been quite enjoyable. I think I may have the bug back again

UPDATE: added a wee Google Maps view of the scenery I've installed, have to leave yaz to your knowledge of geography to work out which airport is which :-)
