Secret Santa

Postby toprob » Fri Dec 23, 2022 9:19 am

As I said earlier, with 8 adults here in Silverstream it would be almost impossible for a pensioner like me to buy everyone a xmas gift, so I'm happy to go along with the 'secret santa' arrangement, where you just get to give one gift for one person. This was a 'random' draw, by my ex-wife, although I did need to make it clear that I wouldn't like to draw her husband, just on principle:) Although he's probably the easiest to buy for, just give him a teeshirt with a boozy or misogynist saying on it.

I ended up drawing Nikiti, my daughter's partner, which was an ideal choice. That way I can make something for both of them. I settled on a diorama of their tiny house, which borders the forest behind this house. I've taken a few liberties, showing it post-apocalypse, not quite finished as there's a gun to go behind the sandbags.... This is 1:87 HO scale.

Mate, that is impressive !!! I spent a lot of my teen years building model railway dioramas and never got even close to that sort of coolness, you've come a long way w this new hobby of yours in a short time.
Well done

No zombies, the inspiration for this was the book/TV show The Peripheral. I've always been a big fan of William Gibson, and this was the first real success putting one of his books on the screen. If you haven't seen this, you really should, it's on Amazon. At one point there's a tiny 3D model of where the protagonists operated from, and I was very intrigued by that.
So the apocalypse here is the Jackpot, a combination of factors, mostly climate change, which leads to most of the world's population dying off.

Thanks for that HU Robin, will search the programme out.

(Just as an aside: I'm currently re-reading "Ecotopia - The Notebooks & Reports of William Weston", Ernest Callenbach, (1975), the forefather of ecological utopias and a book which heavily influenced the 1970s counter-culture ... yeah, I admit it, I'm a faded hippie!).

A great lookin' diaroma too. :)
Regards,
Dorian
