Lost in translation
Watched the Maori All Blacks vs Japan game with my partner this afternoon ...well done Japan.
After the game they had the usual interviews ..captains etc... He spoke , followed by the translation into Japanese, to which my partner said "that's not what he said" , and the same thing again later.
When I asked for a please explain, she said things were added, that didn't need to be if you are a professional translator ...Asian Woman are so hard on each other.
We both recalled a time when I was helping her (driver) with a large group of Japanese farmers at Lincoln University....who were being lectured by a Professor with a very heavy Dutch accent...but the old (younger then) girl aced it....including question and answer after the lecture.
It must be difficult to deal with nuances and slang etc, those UN translators for example...I would probably start a bloody war.
Anyway just saying.
