Is anyone on these forums actually afraid of flying?

I think a lot of people would be lying if they said there wasnt a tiny fear in the back of there mind of flying.

I have a very small fear of flying but it would never be a thing I would let over-run my love of flying or would let it stop me flying.

A lot of people mistake fear for excitement there is nothing better than dropping the nose down and climbing out over the soccer fields while heading to NZAP it is the best thing ever.

i have absolutely no fear of flying what so ever. As long as when the plane goes down and its not my fault, I dont mind at all

I personaly have never felt the slightest bit of fear, I'm a reasonably confident fella, it takes alot to kill you in an aircraft, alot has to go wrong.. The wing woudl have to fall of for me to start wroying. Airplanes are very reliable and safe, I honestly say im not the lest bit frightend, theres more reason to be scared in a car, and I do get rather frightend in the car sometimes, especialy with alot of traffic about, or the roads beside cliffs and stuff.

And then theres other people like my anty that was sedated cos she got so upset cos the wing lights weren't working.

lol Choppers are fun but I would say Im more nervuos flying in planes than helicopters so I can see everyones reasoning.

LOL don't know if I would cr@p myself if the wing lights weren't working maybe when an engine failure light comes on (had one of those on the last trip back from NZAP).

You would absolutely LOVE the indian carriers. Weather it be faulty electronics on the plane (yes, half the cabin lights, no tv, no wing light), or fog so thick you cant see the wing, you can trust Air India to get you there... ofcoure, the plane would be delayed in the first place but hey! The airfares are cheap

i love flight flying and everything to go with it ,but i do take into account my kids and i more scared for them if i didnt come home
all sweet with the flying thing once you are on your way you forget about if when and how

Never used to be.

But I have to admit after several bumpy rides into the hills I'm not overly fond of downdrafts and air pockets. I used to like it bumpy. Mainly go in choppers but I've done a few fixed wing as well. When they say tighten the harness, they ain't kidding.

Now if it's smoother I'm happier. Still keep going back for more of course.

I used to be one of those guys who gripped the armrests, and I'd always consider asking to get off before takeoff! My biggest fear was losing power on takeoff.
Now I have no problem, the rougher the better. Although I think that today's aircraft don't quite have the same element of 'can we jockey just a bit more power out of this thing!!??'

I have been speaking with a friend who wants to use the sim to help fear-of-flying-folk. I think it's a toss-up whether it would help or hinder -- on the one hand, you could turn off crash detection: '...and if we do happen to hit the ground, look, we just bounce up in the air...'
On the other hand, some clown might just decide to plow into the ground, and you'll discover that the aircraft you're using not only has a great crash model, but the virtual passengers each have their own little fiery crash models!

I have never really had a fear of flying-I just dont really think about, but if everybody did that nobody would have fear..

I've flown on airliners all my life and have never been scared, not even after 9/11 as I have been told many times that air travel is by far the safest means of transport.

I did have a little bit of anticipation the first time I began the vertical climb for a loop-the-loop, but once I was inverted I thoroughly loved it!

When I fly now, I tend to be at my most relaxed. It took me a while to figure out why, but now I know that it's because I get to turn my cellphone off. Nobody can contact me, no ex-wives (2), children (3), customers (you know who you are...)
When I land sometimes I 'forget' to turn the phone back on.

I do tonnes of flying and it never scares me because I know how unlikely it is that the plane will crash. I get more scared on a motor bike.

Then again, if people like Kelburn do reach thir goal of becoming a pilot I will be slightly scared

Look at ZKTOM being a pilot especially while he's got my hockey stick at lunch time!

The only thing that makes me a little nervous is getting on a 747 in Auckland for LA after 7 years. I take after my dad in lots of ways...he used to fly so hes not scared of any planes, but my mum on the other hand...."We're using our airfares to go to Nelson today and the flight is only 45 minutes" at the airport..."Ahhh we are flying on a mosquito plane*nervous/EXTRA scared*" All I can do is

That's the problem with me- I always wonder what will happen.. Sorta a fear.. It would never stop me from flying though.
