Ok, I just booked my restricted test for the 28th, and I'm nervous as hell already.. Can any of you guys give me any hints/tips as to what I can expect or should look out for?

It's pretty easy as long as you drive decently. Make sure you turn your head to look in the mirrors, look at your blind spot when ever you pull out. Keep both hands on the wheel unless you're changing gears. Indicate correctly at roundabouts

Make sure you fully stop the car at double yellow line intersections with STOP written on them, and when the instructor asks you to pull over to the side of the road, make sure it is not into a bus-stop. That is something they try to trick you with round here

All the best!

Dont try to impress: just try to do everything by the book.....be over cautious: its 'boring' but it works.
By that i mean, dont think 'Ill act confident by driving at 55km in a 50 kmh zone and will keep my speed up a little when going through give way intersections'.....the examiner is looking for safe but confident driving.

Yes, and although I'm two years away from this test myself, I think good advise would be, don't just blindly follow all their instructions, think carefully and question. I imagine even if they are asking you to do something completly legal, a driver who thinks and questions is still better than one that just does it. If you think about everything it will make the instructor more comformatable to continue to allow you in situations where you may be driving with a passenger who, although having a liscence, may not always be correct.

Don't try and look in all the mirrors at once, flick your eyes up to your mirror every 10 seconds or so - just a quick flick, not a long glance. Don't ride the clutch into intersections - they like you to stay in gear (I assume you are taking it in a manual), don't speed, don't muck up your 3 point turn or anything (you might have one, might not).

As I was told by my instructor before i sat the test "as soon as the examiner says anything look in your mirror" that way its harder to forget to do as i know i for one dont check often enough. Also dont do something dumb like turn up without your L-Plates and as said before make sure you come to a complete stop at a stop sign, not just a rolling stop. Oh and they dont worry if your parallel park is a bit crooked or anything all they care about is that you check your mirror and indicate before pulling over.

it's funny when i went for my restricted, many many moons ago, it was when the Catalina had just arrived in nz and was flying around the country, we had just started the test, had stopped at an intersection, i heard a strange sound, looked out and saw the catalina doing low slow pass over masterton, i said to the instructor, i know i shouldn't be looking at this, but there goes the Catalina, he said "stuff the test i want to see this plane", we ended up driving to the airport and sat at the airport for about ten minutes watching the cat fly around, then back to the test which i flew though
