With all the pro-Tibet protests going on recently, including the extinguish of the Olympic torch as it was replayed through Paris on the way to Beijing overnight, I wondered what NZFF's general view on the free Tibet campaign was, seeing as Helen just signed that multi-billion free trade deal China...?

Don't really know enough about it, although I do hate the Chinese government, so I'd lean towards them getting out.

Watch 'Seven years in Tibet' and you will soon be ticking 'Yes".

Yes. Tibet was an independent nation for 40 years before being invaded and conquered by the Chinese. Not a good reason for China to rule there in my view. Having said that, I don't think the free trade agreement should be seen as us somehow condoning what's going on in Tibet, we'd limit ourselves heavily if we only traded with countries who had spotless human rights records and took a pacifist stance to world politics.

Yea, Wiki can be not-so-good on topical issues; people come along and edit the article to skew it over to one point of view or-other, and can be a while before it gets picked up and put right. Still, can be a very useful resource if you take it with a pinch of salt. :)
