For the few weeks I am left in the country, I am looking to find a cheap wireless modem to hook up to the phoneline so I can use my laptop all over the house rather than just by our current ADSL model- is it possible to do this, and if so, could anyone tell what the cheapest model around is, and where I can find it?

If you wanted a cheap one, your best bet would be Trademe or something. Most new ones retail for around $100 minimum I think...
