Air New Zealand has launched a new competition to capture the imagination of young New Zealanders interested in aviation - and you have until August 29th to enter.
The 'Make it Fly' competition is open to all year 9 to year 13 High school students in New Zealand and requires entrants to answer the question, "how far can I make an aluminium drinking can fly?"
You can make it fly by bending, hammering or cutting your can into whatever shape you see fit and by using any of the materials set out in the competition rules, which can be found online at www.makeitlfy.co.nzThe only thing standing in your way are the limits of your imagination and a budget of $20 – and of course, the work should be your own!
Register and check out the rules at www.makeitfly.co.nz. After they have registered, the Make It Fly team will chase up their schools and get them on board too. Schools can register as many teams as they want to enter, with up to four pupils per team.
The winning team will take away the first prize of $20,000 worth of technical equipment for their school, paid for by Air New Zealand. And, the members of the winning team can choose from $2000 of Air New Zealand Holidays vouchers each, Sydney Big Day Out tickets with travel included, or a trip to the Gold Coast. Spot prizes will also be given at all events for the most original looking aircraft and best design.
All participating teams must register by the 29th August 2008, with regional heats taking place throughout New Zealand on the weekends of 30th and 31st August* and 6th and 7th September 2008.* The national finals will take place on 14th September 2008*– venues will be listed on the communications page of www.makeitfly.co.nz. The cost of travel to the finals will be reimbursed by Air New Zealand. (*Dates subject to change)
