aeroplane tyres

Does anyone know where to get them?

I'm forever seeing them put on beach buggies, and want to build one myself. People must pick them up fairly cheap. I've been offered beach buggies with aeroplane tyres on them before, for $300-$600 ready to go.

try the local aeroclub, if they don't have 'em, they may know where to go. might get past the useful life tyres cheap!!

Maybe check out a maintanance hanger somewhere or just go round an airfield.

Hmm, ok. I'll see what happens tomorrow. Haven't seen a cessna or anything 'up close' but I just assume tyres from smaller planes like cessna's would be about the same size as regular car tyres?

It got me thinking, if I could get some tyres from an airliner...and make a 'monster truck' sort of, fit it with a roll cage, build some dirt ramps out at my brother farm and have some fun

Might go to Christchurch Airport and aerodrome and see what I can dig up, rather than go to Rangiora since I don't think it's very active.

They're considerably smaller than a car tyre (from light aircraft), probably the size you'd find on a reasonably large go-kart.

If you want car tyres go to a Tyre Shop, they have old useless ones out the back for free/very cheap.

You might have better luck at Rangiora. Go to the Rangior aircraft maintaince place there they might be able to poin you in the right direction

Id imagine A/c tyres are a very different beast to car tyres- An aircraft tyre isnt really made for sustained lateral loads, they have massive sidewalls/profiles for comfort etc....I doubt the rim sizes would be compatible either?

Id say, stick to car/truck tyres if you are putting them on a car/truck.
