Hi Guys

Been hit with a trojan! My AVG didnt stop it. It got into my PC after visiting a classic aircraft site. It was a link from "the old hanger" flight sim site- don't remember the site sorry just dont link onto another site from there. It wiped half my C drive including most of my FS9 so I am out of action for a while in regards to flight simming - still have internet access and email access but PC will be going into the shop.

In any case I am facing yet another FS9 reinstall - maybe I should get FSX??? - nahh the Sabre is beckoning - except I wont be able to fly it when it comes out this week.

Arrgh! That's BAD news Sorry to hear that.

What was the name of the trojan? I'm a bit worried, as I only use AVG (free) myself ... after giving up on the ever-more-bloated Norton thing.

Did you get rid of it in the end, or did you just reformat the drive?

Tough break Paul, no doubt you had it all backed up ?, however being just "down the road" sing out if you've lost anything that I may have.

As a matter of interest, I dumped AVG after the last upgrade when a lot of the guru's were unhappy with it.

I am now running Avast, a simple install and well supported by a lot of the experts on F1 (PC World.)

Yea im running avast aswell have been for almost a year now, Had Norton before it and IMO avast is better...

What a bugger Paul I had a similar scare the other day but with my OS (vista ) was facing wiping my hole HD and starting again which I dident take to well.

Thanks guys - found the web site that had the issue - didnt go into again obviously - it was www.classicwings.net - obviously somebody has affected the site - go there at your risk - not sure if will happen again at that site but I am not risking it.

Funny thing I was about to ditch AVG and put Avast on my PC as I has just installed Avast on my wifes PC - oh well at least I can get a clean install of FS9 and ditch some stuff I wasn't using - the PC is going back to the shop tomorrow as needs a complete reformat.

I have two drives and everything is backed up on DVD or on my other drive (which wasnt touched) so not all is lost but wil take ages to put it all back together - as Lawrie (Snowman) has suggested to me I should have backed up the entire FS9 on an external hard drive - something that maybe worth investigating.

Looking at the sorry state of my FS folder the only things left in my aircraft and scenery folders are the Flight 1 152 which I bought years ago and havent used for ages and Nelson airport!

I'd recommend Avast too. Sorry about your dilemma Paul, the kids' PC got severely infected recently and I used a combo of Spybot, Avast, Virtumondobegone, VundoFix and tools from MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) to clean it up. Malwarebytes in particular seems to clear many things.

My Friend has got one.
It killed his firefox and now he's getting pop ups but IE is working slowly. How can he get rid of it?

Use antivirus (i use virus as a general term here) like what ZK-MAT suggested. I would also add 'Ad-Aware' to the list as well.
My pc has only got bypassed by 'viruses' twice, both were stupid mistakes that could have easily been avoided. I run AVG (I still trust it, avg would be alerted andworking on an update to prevent it) spybot search and destroy, and ad-aware. I would say get these programs (or equivalent) as bare minimum security.

Out of interest Naki did you have the AVG Safe search add on (for internet) and AVG 8? Because I am alerted whenever I enter a site that is possibly dangerous and I'm asked if I want to continue or not.

Oddly enough, AVG and Ad-Aware didn't save my arse when 6 months down the track I had the same problem...
Since then, I've only used Norton and Firefox with no trojans, viruses or any other nasties

Stupid me clicked on a link from another web site so I bypassed the AVG safe search. I had AVG 8, Adware and spybot running but ithey didnt work in time and the trojan or whatever it was has basically deleted or broken them all. It did all this in the matter of seconds. I'll check out the other suggestions when I get up and running again.

I m taking it into the shop tomorrow as I want it done professionally as I am not exactly software savy.

Ok try this CNTRL ALT DELETE
Click on processes and go through every single process, google the process name to locate the particular trojan name. From there Google the trojans name and have a look as no doubt someone on the internet has come across it and found a way to remove it. Trojans are a bit trickier than normal viruses to remove but it can be done without losing the data on your drives the worst I've come across duplicated itself into many areas in the drive and in the registry.
