As requested by Ian here are some photos of the model ships that I build when not simming.
Uss Missouri at 1/96 scale. 9feet long and 7 years to build.

Fletcher class destroyer USS Hart also 1/96 scale along side Missouri.

Latest build French Battleship Richelieu. in 1/96 scale and 8 feet long.

That does look time-consuming. No man could master that AND fly the Level-D 76!

I have a funny feeling ..... The Richelieu , Jean Bart , so close to home , looking forward to watch the build , of course need photo material or source detail but i guess you must have the same collection

A wonderful piece of hobbying - you're obviously a very patient man with great skills....most impressive.

Does one build something like this from kit-sets, or do you start from scratch with plans....?

Hi.
Thanks to all for the kind words.
I started with airplanes but the cost of repairs was huge so changed to ships, less likely to crash or sink.
To give you an idea of cost, the Missouri owes me about 14K.
Was a SEMI kit. That is I bought the hull and some fittings from a supplyer in the USA and then had to build the rest from scrtach. Most of the small fittings and AA mounts are from a guy in the UK who also builds these types of models for museums.
Beaufighterguy your t-6 is very impressive. I still love the R/C aircraft and watching them fly. I would get too nervous flying something like yours though. Would break my hjeart if it crashed.
To Naki. The missouri gets wet about twice a year now. Is a bit of a mission as you could well see to get her to sail. Next outing is the Armistice weekend display at Cambridge Nov 8 and 9.

Will keep you posted on the Richelieu build Ian. Research is the interesting part. Have been looking for stuff on the Richelieu for over 5 years now. Must have every picture on the net saved for reference.

No.
It travels inside my van. With all seats down it just fits from rear door to dash.
Problem now is how will I travel with the Missouri at 9 ft and the Richelieu at 8 feet at the same time. Looks liks a new van could be on the cards.

Why don't you get like a Tractor Trailer unit?

That will suit you fine (plus room to increase your fleet

What is it powered by (I detect a wake.) and I assume it is RC as well ? I'm sending the url to a Navy mate of mine, he'll drool for days.

,It's a nice model to own.
I've crashed it a couple of times but nothing major.
