June Screenshot Competition (NOT!)

Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

I just love the RNZAF Dakota - and was dying to use it in the May competition. Having waited for hours, days - weeks even - for the weather to be foul enough, I hijacked the RNZAF Dak for a [bumpy] spin over Robins' excellent AKL scenery. After actually reading the rules [ooops!], it appears these shots would be disqualified, so I'm entering them for June. Theme: "Warbirds over North Head".

1) It has to be a Dakota. 2) Has to be within visual range of North Head or Rangitoto. 3) Members other than "Adamski" need not apply.

So ... using my patent FSX Time Skip Facility ... here are my submissions ...

... and here's my submission to June's BANNER competition ;) :

Like to plan ahead aye? ;)

Nice shots, though in the last one, the plane looks alittle, light.

That's because there was a stonking great thunderstorm going on! For some reason, screen capture (using the inbuilt "V" command) rarely captures the lightning effects - or maybe my keyboard prodding was a bit wayward. I was surprised I even got this one. I suppose I could always Photoshop a bit of "Hammer House of Horror" forked lightning into the image :P

To be honest, I'm just using this as an exercise in getting to know how the cameras work in FSX. I'm a bit of a noob, really, to FSX. Most of my [virtual] life, I've been too busy shooting things down or blowing things up (IL-2, Falcon4 or LOMAC). In FSX, I actually get to *land* ... usually my flights end in a parachute (if I'm lucky!!). Not surprisingly, my landings are pretty cr*p!

Thanks! Hey ... I followed your sig to VatSim. Good to see a Joomla site!! Is it 1.0x or have you gone up to 1.5??? In my "Real Life" ™ I'm a web developer - and have put up a fair few Joomla sites. Some people here are lucky enough to have "an office in the sky" - while I sit deskbound to HTML and PHP :(

I've never been bold enough to try any virtual airline stuff (*she* thinks I'm daft enough as it is) ... but those long winter nights ...

I have no idea, I don't run it. I just fly in the Vatsim online skies ;)

NICE SHOTS!, I have taken a few lightning shots and it's always stumped me why the flash of light is reflected to the other side of the aircraft?

I was looking at the rules too, to see if they stated that: If your an employee of FE you may not enter, and it says nothing to that effect. So I'm entering anyway! However if I had the remote possibility of actually winning, the ticket is yours, on the condition you come down to Botany so I can be your instructing F/O.

Winning your own competion with only you in it "Priceless"

Nice screenshots there Adam- the lovely wedge shape of the DC3 never fails to impress!

I know what you mean! Yesterday flying Wellington to Wanaka with real world weather, my sim demonstrated what must have been the biggest electrical storm New Zealand has ever witnessed... it was actually quite tricky to capture my Dash 8 in sun lit luminously rather than the reflection of the giant fork lightning that appeared out of nowhere every few seconds!

Heh ... nice one! You could always change your signature ;)

Reminds me of that Irish aviation joke ... about landing on the world's shortest runway ... where the 2nd officer says "well ... I've never seen a runway as *wide* as this either!!!".

What happened to the Dak - did it fly through a cloud of paint stripper? Mind you - with rain like we've had in the last couple of days in Auckland, I'd be surprised if the wings were still on!!!
