The players:

Mitsubishi A6M Zero

Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IV

As the Zero makes it's attack run, the Spitfire closes in........................

The Fight Begins!

The fight takes both planes down low, twisting and turning over the city as the hapless Zero tries to escape.........

Finally the Spitfire emerges victorious!

The screenies were shot in FS2004:ACOF, with the help of FS Recorder smile.gif I flew the flight with the Zero first, then replayed it as traffic when I did the same flight with the Spitfire smile.gif

Well..........if the Spitfire pilot was inexperienced or distracted enough to let the Zero suck him into a turning fight below 200mph, the tables could very very quickly turn ugly for the Spitfire........

Here's some more shots, this time of a P-51D vs. FW-190A8 over Calais France............

I want to try and perfect this technique with modern fighter jets next.

Ok - having tried the technique for the previous two sets of screenies and substituting the Warbirds for modern combat jets, I can tell you that it is a much more challenging affair..............the distance and amount of space that modern jets can cover in a short amount of time is amazing. In just a few short seconds you can go from having the bogey firmly in your sight to having 4 or 5 miles of separation between you.....

That said, here are the results - a BAe Hawk vs. Scaled Composites ARES:

Hawk

ARES

Fights On!

No real winner in that engagement.........I was never able to close within 1/2 mile needed for a guns kill long enough.
