ENBSeries again...

There's been a bit of discussion about this lately, I just have a couple of things to add -- I don't think I could live without this now, there are times when the effect gets in the way, as I'll try to explain.

First, here's the 'old' FSX, without the ENB tweak:

To me, this just looks 'flat' now, as the whole range of light values is scrunched into the middle range. In reality, the brightness range is far greater than anything the monitor can display, so it's nice to have some attempt at reproducing this:

Although the ground textures are changed quite a lot, the main use for this is in the sky, of course. The most important area for me is towards the horizon, where the blue bloom effect is much more pronounced.

One thing which you need to take into account is the rather simple way this thing works. It doesn't know what is sky, of course, so it needs to take a few guesses. To do this, it assumes that the sky is up, which isn't always the case. You will notice a change in brightness as you look up and down.

Here's our test shot, without ENB:

And with ENB:

I've chosen to look up a little, as this stops the ground from going too dark.

If I look down, you can see that it gets a bit overpoweringly gloomy:

And looking up further, the ground gets brighter again:

The only time I need to turn this off is at night (although it is possible to tweak the night settings, I just haven't done it yet), sometimes if I get close to the snow (such as landing a heli in the mountains) or trying to find a landing spot looking down into a dark forest/lake -- it all gets a bit difficult to see, so I 'cheat' by switching ENB off for a bit.

Great demo Rob, i agree the horizon is very much enhanced ......but too my eye.....it detracts a lot from the aircraft, seems to wash out a lot of detail (on the aircraft)...at least in the demo shots.
Just my uninformed opinion.....i guess its all down too the "eye of the beholder" interesting though.

Cheers

Thanks for your info, Rob thumbup1.gif. Well - it all goes to show how personal something like this is! I prefer pic #1! All that lovely detail in the aircraft is totally washed out in all the others -and there's an odd "halo" around the aircraft in some. It just isn't my cup of tea!

Off-topic, sorry - but I don't seem to have the ZK-SRI repaint in my database on NZFSIM. Is it one of your own, or freely available somewhere?

Thanks for your screens Robin. I'm a fan of this in FS9, as I think it needs it. But FSX I've not yet tried. Where did you download this bloom effect for FSX? I'd like to try it out if possible. Thanks smile.gif

(and Adamski's same point)...
It just goes to show how scenery-centric I am, I guess, the aircraft is just there to get in the way of the view... But it does show how addon 'bloom' enhancements work -- the lighter the object, the more bloom, so white/light aircraft will go lighter, dark aircraft will get gloomier. It would be great if this was better natively implemented in FSX, as that way FSX would know what needs to be 'bloomed' rather than guessing based on brightness and onscreen location.

This is my own, which went out with the Grand Traverse mission in Real NZ Southern Adventures. It isn't that good.

I think there's a FSX-specific installer somewhere, but take a look at this earlier thread.

Hi Rob,

There is a way to get around this darkening effect. You can edit the enbpalette file. I did so and gave me a consistent look. This is my favourite and it does not change whether you're looking up or down. Removed the fade.
