So, got the Accusim Spitfire and have been busy testing it, but more so working on my first repaint for it - Spitfire P9390, otherwise known as Kiwi I, the aircraft that Al Deere used up the first of his "Nine Lives"...

The shots here show the repaint in a work in progress state, so I welcome any and all comments on it...

Ah, nice weather for a joyride...not looking too bad so far:

And another angle...Kapiti Island disappearing behind me as we head back to NZPP:

But wait, is that smoke coming from my Merlin??

Yup, sure is....could be in for a swim home!

Having been fished out of the drink, damage to the prop is plain to see:

And the grease monkeys have given me the bad news:

Good thing there's a "Complete Overhaul" button there...that ones getting plenty of use as I get used to the in's and out's of treating an early Merlin the way it deserves!

Great shots ... and great to see someone working on the Deere Spit already! clapping.gif thumbup1.gif

I'm just about to buy the A2A Spit myself, so be prepared for a *deluge* of pics! laugh.gif

Brendon's Spit is a MkIX ... was Al's a MkI ?

Al Deere started in the RAF pre-war, so started out on Mk Is when they first came into service, and flew a number of Spitfires of varying marks. Brendon's Mk IX represents the aircraft that Al flew whilst Wing Commander at Biggin Hill.

My repaint here represents "Kiwi I", which was one of the first Spitfires Al Deere flew when serving in 54 squadron.

I'll never share a cockpit with you if you fly like that! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Thanks for the feedback Ian...where I'm headed with this one is to represent P9390 as she appeared on the day she was spot down over Dunkirkirk. Pictures I have from both Al Deeres "Nine Lives" and Brendon Deeres fantastic book on the restoration of PV270 indicate the she had the yellow ring on the roundel, though it was a non standard width, as well as the fin flash. What I'm not clear on is the colouring of the underside.

I *think* she had the all over sky grey, but I can't be sure.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, and any advice anyone can give will be much appreciated
