Augusta over Snowy Christchurch

Stuck inside because of the snow storm while repairing my computer meant almost 2 days off-line and nothing to do except contemplate the falling snow. I did have some thoughts of going up on the hills to take photos but the lack of a 4-wheel drive made that impractical (read impossible). Finally got the computer up and running again and so indulged myself by seeing if ActiveSky-X (thanks Ian) would realistically display the conditions outside, these are the results. I have to admit to being rather surprised by the realism.

Those of you familiar with Christchurch will have no difficulties recognising the Port Hills, TV tower and Lyttelton harbour and maybe ChCh airport through the snow.

Also a bit disappointed that the demister in the Augusta didn't seem to want to work so although the wipers were on, visibility was still somewhat reduced...

Tried this quickly yesterday. I gave up quickly too, after I saw the winds at 30knts, gusty, severe icing, heavy snows and major turbulence. All fun and games. laugh.gif

Greg , I really hate snow but good idea , I tried a very similar experiment , this was the John Bannerman Air Adventure crash in the fog in Christchurch 2003

Yes, the winds were much more benign today, though the visibility was fairly variable as the clouds came through.
