Mike Sweeney has made a repaint of one of our flying favourites - ZK-CAG. It can be grabbed from his site here.

Here are some pics - Ardmore then Wanaka:

Brings up an interesting point...what are people's feelings on "non-realistic" repaints like this?? CAG being a P-40N, it's quite different to this model, which is of course an early mark P-40 (which is the main reason I haven't bought it myself yet).

Cool screens tho, by the way Adam....I really dig #3 smile.gif

I have mixed feelings about this. It's rather similar to the ORBX/NZSI argument. You can either have total realism, or just a "realistic impression".

For me, having that repaint on the P-40C brings back some memories of seeing the [real] P-40N at air shows - and I quite like trundling around Ardmore with it, amongst my UT2-generated Catalina and Warbirds DC-3 traffic (the Ardmore add-on isn't really realistic either, but my imagination/memory feels in the gaps).

Let's face it, you have to do a LOT of "filling in the gaps" in any flight sim. I shudder to think what commercial pilots make of a systems/procedures heavy FSX aircraft like the PMDG 737NGX ... after all ... it is only a sim.

Ideally, I'd have liked a P-40N ... but it's still an impressive add-on to have, regardless of the accuracy of the repaint(s).

Im such a P-40 purest I wont buy it either because its not the mark I want...same with the Spitfire...different story with the Mark V though...

Watch this space ... as Mike's working on a new version with a more accurate green colour smile.gif

What are the essential differences between the P-40C and the P-40N? I can see the cockpit is different ... is the N version longer?

I think it's Kelvin (Richardson)'s ... though I added some additional tweaks to the taxiways myself so I could get my UT2 AI traffic to park in the right places.

It's well worth trying - one of my favourites (thanks, Kelvin thumbup1.gif).

It's on Flightsim.Com ... Name: ardmore.zip Size: 22,909,037 Date: 03-01-2008 : ardmore.zip.

<shrug> I'm not THAT much of a purist lol...

I do know that the chin radiator arrangement is very different...much deper in the later marks. And they don't have the two machine guns mounted above the engine, so the profile of that secton of the aircraft is "flatter"...combined with the radiator differences, it really does look quite different, to me at least...

Just back from a fresh repaint (slightly greener and some odd fixes):

Very early morning pre-flight checks at Ardmore ...

... then off down to the Abel Tasman ...

... trying *so hard* to look like a Spitfire laugh.gif

My favourite is #2 ... there's always something about early morning light (not that I see much of it in RL laugh.gif!).
