There are four things that will make this shine:

1) A stable core engine.
2) Improved performance (with a DX11 upgrade).
3) Ongoing development.
4) Developers who want the community's feedback/suggestions and who will also respond to queries. Actually Lockheed have employed a couple of the ACES team to join their own team of developers for this product. We all wanted ACES studios to remain open didn't we? So that we could have a newer and more stable "FSX", they were indeed on the right track but got axed.

What you see here currently is purely the beginning stages not a future product. If you go over to my post here: http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16836 you will see that there is a whole lot more to come. If you want just a running system without any requirement for a more accurate simulation then stay where you are.

I have been reading hundreds of posts from the P3D team and there is so much more potential with ESP with this team of "world class experts" eloquently put by John Nicol (Founder and CEO of P3D) and it is undoubtedly going to be much more than we have ever seen from FSX. And at about $20 NZD per month for those who either want to develop or just try it out it's not all bad. I have run FSX ever since it came out and honestly I can assure you there is something alot more stable with Prepar3D than what i'll ever get out of FSX. In addition to the slightly sharpened textures and tweaked lighting (probaby as it uses shader 3 as default) it has the capability for 4096 sized textures rather than 1024 sized ones as FSX does. We have only seen the beginning with this. There's so much to gain with Lockheed building on this product especially with the demand they have from varying training and flying organisations who are wanting a product like this.

Don't be too fearful about your current products as I have many and most so far have ported accross fine. Of course only with a bit of manual processing but i'm sure down the track we have them automated into installers. I have many Carenado A/C as well as NGX and all running great.

Cheers,

Kelvin

Sorry to be have been a little harsh........i appreciated the fact that you took the time too put forward your case in the reply.

Just a bit tired and grumpy, but no excuse for wasting bandwidth.

I'd love to try Prepar3D, but I registered last Friday and am still waiting for them to send me the email password so I can log in and get the files! Argh.

John Venema of Orbx has made some very enthusiastic comments about v2.0 of P3D which is in the works. I think at that point P3D could well be a major step forward from FSX. I'll be jumping in now and getting a subscription simply to support the development work LM are doing to get there. I think it's great that some of the ACES guys are on board, as their expertise with the engine is unequalled and hopefully they'll be able to develop it in ways they never had the time or resources to do at MS. Full multi-core support and graphics on the GPU are some of the things which have been mentioned. I think that'll really be something to see when the time comes... just hope they'll have sent my password by then laugh.gif

Adrian you may have to re register, I was waiting for awhile as well and thought bugger it I will have another go, my user name was registered but I had typo'ed my email addy icon_redface.gif so after choosing another identity "WITH" correct email spelling I got my authentication mail almost instantaneously.

Thanks Pete. I'll give them till next week then have another go I think. I wonder whether it's my email domain it doesn't like (I might even have tried to register once before ages ago with the same result, I can't remember). Either way, I've got another email address I can try instead.

Cheers,

Good looking shots. thumbup1.gif

I gather Prepar3D allows better performance by allowing the engine to work differently, but considering all af the addons you already have what is prepar3D doing in these shots??

Been following this thread with interest - however am wondering if I'm missing something here - after what we've been seeing screenie wise lately, these
look very ordinary to me and that's being charitable. Is this a case of "the Emporers clothes..?"

Does sound as if LM are reworking the FSX engine to make it deliver as originally promised.
If so, there may well be a future, eh?

I idly wondered if someone stitched together a NZ version of this one...
Great looking, and NZ does package extremely well.

I've gotta agree with you, I think they are great shots, but no better than a well added to FSX. I was wondering what Prepar3D was actually doing visually in these shots.

Same I will definitely look at it when it goes DX11, but atm FSX shines...and it is paid for.. dunno where all these bugs are that everyone say are in FSX.

sorry for the late response. This is really to show that addons can work with P3D. Really I think the only way to really feel P3D is to use it. It just has more smoothness and seems to be able to handle more autogen and not lose too many frames. it's ambience seems a little better somehow (can't put my finger on it yet). Shader 3.0 is integrated as well, the water looks quite good and seems not flicker from time to time as in FSX loading the water textures. The biggest thing that I have mentioned before is the stability and ongoing development. The core coding has been improved for stability.
