Tristar leaving Muskat, Oman, (OOMS)

From RAF Lossiemouth.

Some Screens from the last sorties... think after the last british soldier´s left Afghanistan, the time of the RAF-Tristar is over.

Nice screens Andreas cool.gif , Nice model to fly this one and they done there time 30years after airline duties , of to the desert again simply to sit , seemed they outlived the others in the same class for a late 60s design .

The fleet was around 250 examples... and 9 with the RAF and 2 others in flyable condition... left. Think, it was the fact, that from Lockheed they have not converted the Tristar as freighter. Many DC 10 have after passenger flights got a usefull second life as freighter. Te L 1011 not...

It was the muck up with Roll Royce with the RB211s that sunk them and due to promises almost sunk Lockheed again , part reason why the Brit's had to buy and put into use with British Airways was to recover cost .. the 10s had a choice for engines .
