Lots of awesome shots this month but I have to say it was pretty damn difficult to choose because what may be a great shot to look at isnt always going to make a good banner,...you guys need to think about lighting,..size of your subject,..whether it will fit into a banner configuration once cropped. At the end of the day I chose the screen I liked best,..whether it will make a good banner Im not so sure...we will see... smile.gif . Good work tho all who contributed. thumbup1.gif

The idea has always been that this is first and foremost a screenshot competition, the banner is an added incentive, but the banner shouldn't be the final goal. The final goal should be a great screenshot. The banner isn't there to display the winning screenshot, but to promote the forum. It's up to the banner designer to figure out how that'll work, but his goal should always be to get an eye-catching banner.

I remember one issue I had with a banner, where I cropped the aircraft to fit the forum name in nicely. Someone (it might not have been the winner) pointed out that I could have left the aircraft in complete, and that somehow I was obligated to if I could do so. Since this would have resulted in an ugly banner, I wouldn't do this. The banner is a very important graphic element on the forum, so it needs to be designed as such.

Things may have changed with a change of banner designer, but I would still recommend that the winner should be the best screenshot, not the best banner.

I think this month everyone who entered (in my mind) has done an amazing job. Master artist standard all round. Well done all. I only have one vote, but for the other 21, consider this statement one more virtual vote to your tally!

Well, Doug only has one vote, the same as the rest of us...but I do try to arrange things so that if one of mine happens to win, it will be easy for Doug to make a great banner from it - he does enough work for us as it is. biggrin.gif
The voting so far shows that the standard is improving all the time, and that no-one can expect a walkover. That's how it should be, in my less-than-humble opinion winkyy.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Not the way I look at it personally, the shots are nearly always great and theres plenty to choose from so I always give decent weighting to something I think would work as a banner.

I think looking at current votes , due Doug going to the effort changing entries by number appears to get a great and more honest spread ... cool.gif

Regarding images and the banner it would make it far easier if members where to pause and take two screen shots one for the competition and then zoom out and take another that can be cropped for the banner that is unless their original shot can be easily cropped into a banner
