Inspired by Ians art work (black and white) , and that great shot Gavin posted a way back (b&w spitfire) You may have seen some of these before , but they would have been in colour.

Thanks for looking guys ... your right Naki , the older ones look much better . Its still hard to replicate that super clear , high contrast , real black and white look.
Thanks again.

2nd to last one is very authentic looking. Looks like a staged USAF photoshoot. Nice job!

The black and white does it for me too. It seems to remove "something" that hangs about in 99% of coloured screenies that indicates to me that while this is a very
nice shot, it is a FlightSim one and not the real thing. These are really great .. well done that chap... clapping.gif

My opinion is that the lighting in stock FSX is all wrong. This is what throws off a good shot many times. The way the lighting illuminates colors is a dead giveaway. However, some 3rd party apps like ENBseries or sweetFX for example can change lighting shadows and color to emulate a more natural lighting. But still very subjective. Removing the color component allows the eyes to simply interpret light from dark in contrast. It removes imperfections in color radiance, or color tone, and leaves you simply gradation in light/dark, brightness/contrast. B&W vs. Color, who's to say. I love both and both can be achieved very well despite the imperfections of FSX.

a Few examples, not to highjack the thread:

P-40 Color

P-40 B&W

D-17 Color

D-17 B&W

Hijack all you want Rick ....Im all for shareing the love (of screenshots) Great examples. thumbup1.gif
I do like the way (sounds odd) that red looks in black and white ... its all about contrast , good post , thanks ... it is hard to get the light right ... in this one (sorry to repeat a screen) it was underneath the aircraft , i had to adjust the time of day and season to get a bit of detail on the upper part , while hopeing to keep it looking "real" . The ground can be a problem for me as well , have to try and keep those awful roads that go through fields and houses , out of the shot .

Dont know why i torment myself (and you guys rolleyes.gif ) sometimes , i guess it because i love it smile.gif
