one of a kind. She housed a Hughes seven megawatt
phased-array radar that was capable of tracking an
object the size of a soccer ball from a range of 300
nautical miles In 1960. The electrical load that was
created required a seperate engine driven generator
mounted under the left wing, and a heat exchanger in a
similar pod under the right wing. Tragically she was lost
over the Bering Sea while enroute to Eielson AFB Alaska . After more than three weeks of intensive search and rescue operations, the efforts were called off. Neither a single piece of wreckage nor any personnel were ever found.
