correct Ian, Squadron Leader R P Beamont, 609 (WR) squadron.

During the second world war 486 Sqn (New Zealand) operated the Tempest Mk V from Newchurch in Kent circa June 1944, using the SA-* Squadron code.

486NZ also operated Typhoon's on Ground Strike and before that Hurricane's on Night Intruder raids.
If you can find it, the book on 486NZ called the wild winds. It is an amazing read, it in the appendixes they have listed every airframe flown by 486, and all the pilots who flew with the squadron during its life

I was lucky to meet a 485 pilot at the Tauanga Airshow 7 years back, that was a Spitfire Squadron as we all know , one thing, he so was damn pleased so many have the knowledge and followed the history.
