I'm obviously doing something wrong but this Zlin doesn't seem to have enough power to get out of its own way. May have to fiddle with it.
Trying to outclimb the weather after takeoff from Mt Cook airport

Well below the summit - full throttle, mixture lean and barely 500 fpm. Time to turn on the blower.

Gave up - now to get back under this stuff.

Didn't see the Mt Cook runway so will follow Lake Pukaki to that airport.

Short final for runway 11 at Pukaki - airport for the town of Twizel nearby.

The flag was originally red/white/green - changed to generic red/white/blue - covers a whole bunch. All my planes are appropriately registered - my UK number is G-IN&T.

I just tried the same flight, with a similar result - it clagged out at 8000', revs dropped to idle and stayed there until I put it down in a convenient paddock, when the engine stopped altogether. Had the same thing with a Piper Apache, which had me looking for a carb heat switch, but neither plane has one. The Piper is a update/portover of a Bill Lyons model. I was able to shutdown and restart the engines, but I didn't try that with the Zlin unsure.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

My engine never quit but, as soon as the nose is pointed uphill, airspeed decays fairly rapidly while altitude doesn't gain a whole lot. It stalls at 100 kph and this happened several times trying too hard for a climb.
