Another repaint from Aotea at war thunder live ...historically correct, and also very well done. You can still see the "star" just forward of the roundel ..faded.

"One of the RNZAF's 22 SBD-5s, this airframe was taken over as a new aircraft in February 1944. Brought on charge with No.25 Servicing Unit on 01 April 1944. (No joke)

She was ferried to Bougainville for use with No.25 Squadron, arriving at Piva on 23 March 1944.

She was flown by Flying Officer L.A. "MAD MAC" McLellan-Symonds with Flight Sergeant R.F. "SYNCOPATION" Bailey as her gunner.

NZ5060 took part in 25 Squadron's first strike against Japanese positions in the Suka Valley on 24 March 1944.

She survived her service with the RNZAF and was returned to US Marine Corps at Russell on 20 May 1944.

Like many RNZAF front line lend-lease aircraft, the USN roundels were painted over using B.A.L.M. paints that were similar but not the same as those used by the USN. The result often depended on the colour and type of paint available at the Servicing Unit on the day. In this case the specularity (glossiness) of the Kiwi paint is lower than it should be, and has already begun to fade in colour -the B.A.L.M. blue paints were notorious for desaturating in the harsh tropical sun. (One of the reasons you see so many variations in the colour of RNZAF roundels in drawings and paintings.)"

Thanks Aotea .
