Have seen the Polikarpov I-16 in the competition....

This one is an I-16 Typ 24 armed with

- 2 ShKAS (Shpitalny-Komaritski Aviatsionny Skorostrelny, Shpitalny-Komaritski rapid fire for aircraft; Russian: ШКАС - Шпитального-Комарицкого Авиационный Скорострельный) Machine Gun 7,62 mm
- 2 ShVAK (Russian: ШВАК: Шпитальный-Владимиров Авиационный Крупнокалиберный, Shpitalnyi-Vladimirov Aviatsionnyi Krupnokalibernyi, "Shpitalny-Vladimirov large-calibre for aircraft") was a 20 mm Canon

This aircraft was may be flown by Boris Safonov

Was? Where are all the Polikarpovs gone, seen at "Warbirds over Wanaka" years ago? One is in Germany and the others?

Yup all the Poli's have gone, 1x to Paul Allen, 1x to Germany, 1x to Spain, 1x to the Commemorative Airforce in the USA and 1x to Russia and the other to Jerry Yagen in the USA, the other , i believe that 1 of the I-153s is in Russia again, one in Spain and one in the USA.
Sir Tim's plan was to keep 1x of each and sell the rest, but after his accident the family dissolved the collection and sold the entire collection.
