Why I think XP11 has better visuals than P3D

Function for function, there's lots to argue about when comparing P3Dv4.5 and XP11 ... but, for visuals alone, I think XP wins by a long way.

Hard to believe this is from a sim!

I agree. I recently got P3DV4 just for ORBXs PNG scenery and yeah it's OK but it almost looks cartoonush compared to XP. XP is streets ahead in terms of helicopters too sooo.....

All the TrueEarth sceneries look good - regardless of which sim ... but the penalties are twofold:

1) Humongous downloads and storage space.
2) Being photoreal, it's usually only the one season. Of course, they could do all four, but then it'd be 4x the problem!

If you can afford it, TEGB (for P3D) is well worth it.

If you really like "low and slow" (ie. choppers) ... isn't there a "bush" sim on its way some time soon (that might also do choppers)? I must admit I'd rather have one area beautifully done than the whole world badly.

I have been pondering various options and am pinning my hopes on a whole new graphic engine for P3DV5........or an outside chance that MS come thru with their offering.
But XP is going from strength to strength.

Agreed ... and goodness knows how add-on developers decide which horse to back.

Are you talking aircraft visuals (as depicted), weather visuals, landscape visuals, scenery (town / city) visuals, lighting visuals, night visuals ... one specific aspect, serveral, all overall?

I think I should have been more specific: the overall *lighting* (for aircraft and atmospherics) is way better/more realistic. Scenery rendering is the same as P3D but water is worse. I rarely fly at night, so can't really compare.

I think it's the atmospheric scattering, the terrain and aircraft lighting that are XPs strongest points. As for the water, I don't know, sometimes it looks pretty damn good and then other times, it gets horrible patterns. There are some scripts that fix that

I've tried every water script out there and none of them really fix the problem. Some work well at certain altitudes, but then go horribly wrong at others. I think FSX has the best water!

Yeah I've played around with a few and got some OK results but as you say, they can then go the other way. Maybe XP12 haha. Agreed that FSX was pretty good with regard to that
