RNZAF A-4 History ...1 screen.

BuNo 157906, later to become NZ6203, built in 1970.
This airframe was the first to go supersonic with the RNZAF, while on charge with 75Sqn....sadly lost in 1996 but the pilot ejected and was fine,

All I can find out is "In the book “From Rags to Rivets — The Trevor Bland Story” by Ron Pemberton, in chapter 7, ‘A-4 Skyhawks, High Jinks and The AFC’, the story is told of Trevor Bland diving on Ohakea from 40,000 feet in an A-4 to punch a sonic boom at the base, but miscalculating and hitting Bulls School with the sonic boom instead, causing panic amongst the school pupils and the brown stuff hitting the fan with his commanding officer. It also mentions in that chapter that the early No.75 Squadron A-4 pilots used to regularly punch sonic booms at the Waiouru barracks as well." from a post on RNZAF Proboards.

The Interwebs doesn't know much of this stuff.
Those kids would have had a bit of a start for sure.
Then again, going supersonic is not particularly neighbourly, especially in a jet that wasn't meant to.
So it wouldn't have been broadcast much, pre-internet.
