MSFS update first flight

Postby toprob » Wed Sep 30, 2020 12:49 pm

I'm really excited to be part of this, as a simmer and a developer, whatever 'this' turns out to be. Microsoft's Folly? Art? A new era in simulation?

Ran the update this morning, no issues, although I do think there's a bit of a reduction in distant detail which a lot of folk are reporting. However I turned some settings up a bit, which helped, although I no longer have my 45+ frame rates.

I installed the free Japan content, and took a quick look around Tokyo, along with a lot of other simmers. Seeing Fuji in the distance, I thought I'd have a closer look. When I was approaching it, I wanted to stop for lunch, so I pressed 'V' to bring up the map and see where I could land. Instant CTD, which is my first while actually flying. (I have had a couple with the internal development tools.) So no nice Fuji shots, I really need to get back to work this week.

I took it as it came, real-time and real weather, so a bit cloudy and a 15 knot wind....

Can't go wrong with that scenery although it looks a bit anemic colorwise. An abundance of forested areas - they could sell some to XP where they're often in short supply.

Yes, the lack of 'punch' when it's overcast is something which I hope we can tweak at some stage. This is a result of the HDR system used by MSFS, which has some real advantages, but does make it a bit gloomy and dark sometimes. In sunlight, it's an entirely different result.
I did get a new monitor for this sim, but I didn't even consider a HDR monitor -- maybe this would have been a better way to go that 4K!
