I grew up in South Taranaki and can assure you such clear days are not the norm !!

I do enjoy RW flights that go over Taranaki... the mountain certainly stands out. I run RW weather and it's the first time it's been like that for some time

Cloud base must be generally low there, most days on the AKL-WGTN run depending on direction, you see Left: Ruapehu Right: Taranaki
