Are you keeping track of the hours and distance?

Well done

Couple of problems there
First I have a glitch in my FSX flight log which stops after so 120 hours or so which it did before I started these flights.
The second is I increased the LOD in the FSX scenery config file to get more detail. Unfortunately this has a tendency to crash the FSX midway through a flight. To save having to completely redo the flight I screen save as I go with position/kts/course and fuel so I can restart without losing too much time. Not strictly kosher but it does save time.
The total elapsed distance A-B should be in excess of 31000 NM but it is hard to tell exactly because of the long detours which are not included.
Thanks for looking.

Time to end this trip by returning to Kaitaia via Alice Springs and Canberra.

Out of Broome

Gosses Bluff
Quite a bit larger than Meteor Crater Arizona at 14 nm across, it is difficult to see all the edges.

Now to the final stop in Aussie-Canberra but first a brief tour of the Alice

Time to make tracks
The best time for the real flight is early evening as the colours change as evening comes on. It is not possible to replicate this in a sim unfortunately as you only get what the photo shows.

Hey Jeff. Just read this series of posts, what a fabulous effort and totally loved the pics and dialogue along the way. Especially the geographical titbits, are you a budding geologist at heart by any chance? Excellent stuff!

Guess you've moved on from FSX now but would be interested to know where some of that photoreal came from? Few of those areas are covered by Orbx, did you have to buy some of that?

I don't know where I was in 2019 but think I was in a non-simming phase for a year or so, so completely missed posts like this, sorry I did now

Hope you are well

Hi

Thanks for the comments

Nope still using FSX as I am now retired and cannot afford to "upgrade" to a faster PC.

Most of the photoreal is FSET which I am still using, in fact I am currently downloading another part of South Africa. FSET is available (for now at least) at no cost at resolutions down to 0.25 M in many places.
I usually download airports from the usual suspects Avsim, Flightsim and Simviation although I do have some payware including Orbx, and Megascenery for the US and some European countries.

Yes I do have an interest in geology although my rock collecting days have passed.

Best regards
Jeff
