Nanchang - MSFS

Postby Adamski » Thu Oct 02, 2025 2:42 pm

Justflight have just released the Nanchang CJ-6 - eagerly awaited by yours truly, as I've had a flight in one in RL.

Here we are at North Shore Airport (NZNE):

Here's Pete - co-owner of ZK-CVI at NZNE:

He's an all round great bloke - and I've been doing his Airshow Travel site for a fair few years: Airshow Travel

There are quite a few Nanchangs flying in NZ, so I'm hoping our superstar painter Jankees will step up. In the meantime, I've started work on ZK-CVI :)

Thanks for showing this, Adam.
I saw the CJ-6A release note but didn't make the Nanchang connection
Will your paint work for FS20?

I suspect it will, as the existing liveries use the old DDS format and folder structure - and not the newer KTX2 format.
Still a way to go with the livery. It's a painstaking process - I don't know how JK bashes them out so quickly!!

Cool...was tempted by that myself but would prefer a Yak 52....what's the model like Adam?

In my trips in ZK-CVI, I didn't get to touch the controls so I can't really compare as regards the flight model. So far it seems to handle OK ... somewhere between a 747 and a microlight :)
Pete says next time we go up, he's going to let me have a go! :)

As regards modelling, the VC is good: plenty of detail, though I think it could use a little more wear & tear ... these trainers get quite a thrashing! The externals look OK - though looking at the texture files in my repainting sessions, they're not amazingly detailed - but it still looks OK in-sim.

Are there any significant differences between this Chinese aircraft and the Russian Yak 52? “Now I’m part of the club too – bought the aircraft… and missed the sale. :D Oh well, won’t kill me. The plane simply tempted me. I need a bit of vacation from multifunction displays.”

I really wish Rusky would release their Yak-52 (X-Plane 11) for MSFS. I loved flying that, and it was so immersive. You had to fill it up with air and fuel manually (after hand-starting a small 2-stroke generator), you had to use a engine heater cover if it was too cold. The flight model, the VC, and the sounds were superb too (IMHO).

You can check it out here: https://store.x-plane.org/Yak-52-Profes ... _1138.html

@Adamski
I find this dragging nose wheel and the heavy braking required to roll around a bend annoying. I've experienced this with some aircraft, and I don't think you have to like it. The Russian YAk 52 doesn't have this, and I certainly don't understand what flight students are supposed to learn from it.
