See my entry this month has polled a solid 4%.
Gratifying, and points the way to the future: up.

But what to do with my own precious vote?
I am soo tempted to Blow it on the Windy City Viscount.
Must.. resist...

thumbup1.gif  If its any consolation Charl, it came down to you and one other. Just goes to show how stiff the competition is.

I do agree the screens are getting ever better, and this is I think part of the Plan.

Watch that Viscount space though.

6.67% at the moment, Charl, that would get you a seat in parliament....

I have a theory about the screenshot comp - bear with me...

Two theories actually..

1. People generally decide what screenshot they will actually vote for looking at the poll on the day. That means a good looking thumbnail is critical. You might have the best screenshot in fullsize, but if someone's looks better in thumbnail, then they'll get more votes. This is not a thought I've had just this month where many shots are very dark, but over a number of months. Is there any way we could remove the thumbnails and either have a link back to the thread of screenshots, or get Doug to use the first post of a poll to post all the shots?

2. For a truly democratic vote on screenshot quality, I think the competition should move towards having us email Doug our screenshots for him to then post anonymously. The quality of shots is so high that if a member has say 5 screenshots they like, surely we're going to take into account who submitted the shot. Who here hasn't been guilty in choosing a final favourite based on who posted it? smile.gif laugh.gif

Anyway, just a random thought (or two) this early hour of the morning. Better get ready for work now.

I too favour a system where the posts are anonymous...takes away any thoughts of "an old boys network" type of situation.

The clicking and banging away on the thumbnails is also a pain, seems worse since the photo-book upgrade. You can't judge these
shots from thumbnails obviously.

Just my 2 cents worth..

The idea would be mailing the screens , then posting an anonymous vote , but then the EXTRA work involved given to Doug would three times the extra work .. currently at the mo it hard enough due to the shinaddakins of photo-bucket making it an effort to organise the postings and prep for the monthly hour .

There's only one small change I'd like to see -- a link to the original screenshot thread. This is the only way to really judge the entries, and you can either do this by keeping an eye on the comp throughout the month, or sit down for 10 minutes at the end of the month and have a good browse through the entries. (You can choose to read through the comments if you wish...) The thumbnails should really just be used to make it easy to find your favourite once you've had a good look at all the entries. I can't really imagine anyone voting just based on a thumbnail, that makes no sense.

And yes, it is a bit of an old boy's network, but that won't change until we get more entries, and more members voting. It is hard to justify a huge increase of work for Doug just over a couple of dozen (less than that this month) entries, and 3 dozen votes.

I would be placing a entry every month, but waiting for new rig.

It used to be about a 3 to 4 hour job doing the thumbnails and setting up the voting page but since PhotoBucket has fixed what wasn't broken and used to be a good photo saving program into the real shambles it is now it can take anywhere from 5 to 7 or 8 hours to do the same work so if anyone knows of a real good image saving program that works like PhotoBucket used to work let me know.
I am using Imageshack for some of my stuff now but it is still just about as messy as Photo bucket.
As anyone using either of those 2 will find that the link you get now should to edited after placing in the forum to get your image showing only without the link to it also showing.

I have been using OzX Image Hosting since the unreliable photobucket issues arose and have found it to be very reliable.
